How much does Color Neutral on a 3x3 really help? I have a good idea of how you would become color neutral, but it would take a while, and I have to wonder what the advantages really are.

BTW, my idea for drilling to become color neutral is everyday, time Ao12 on your normal color, the opposite, and then every other color. Do this every day until you have the same times on every color, then time Ao12s for every color on F2L until you get the same times. I don't think you'd really have to drill for LL, since OLL is easy to identify on really any color and PLL, for me, is just recognized based on 2x2 blocks, full blocks, headlights and such.

This will probably tell you whether you want to do it or not. http://www.cubezone.be/crossstudy.html

Color neutrality isnt that much worth it. It will save you only a 1 or 2 moves on average when solving the cross and it will make the F2L harder as you arent used to it. Most of the really fast color neutral solvers have been color neutral from te very beginning afaik. The time it takes for you to go color neutral is time that would be much more efficiently spent by practising F2L.

Actually, it wouldn't be as bad as I thought if you just know what colors are opposite. I guess it is possible to get good at. I've had bad experiences with 2-side PLL recog because I don't use standard color scheme. Using other peoples cubes made me learn 2-side recog for 2 color schemes, so learning color neutral would be overload.

Is there any website or something that you can use to come up with pictures of a cube for algorithm pages? I am going to need some pictures, but I can't use ones from a different alg page because theres no other alg set like with the same recog as the one I'm doing.

What is the typical breakdown of move count across the steps of Roux?

Counted is STM:

First block 6-9
Second block 12-15
CMLL ~10
LSE 10-15
Maybe better, but this is pretty good. For example, a 17 move long second block is not bad, probably could be better with a different strategy; and if your move count is about 25, then obviously it can be done better.

Hi

Just a quick question: I'm returning to 3x3x3 cubing after learning 2x2x2 solving using the Ortega method. I want learn the full Fridrich method, but I'm wondering: in what order should I learn the steps? Should I start with F2L, OLL or PLL? Thanks!

I'll give a bit more extensive answer;

Begin with F2L like said by YddEd until you can comfortably average 35-40 seconds. This is when you start to go into Full PLL. Learn PLL algorithms one by one and keep on practising F2L. When you've learned the Full PLL you should be down to 25-30 seconds average. Then you practise F2L. Whilst doing so find out some really bad OLL cases as you come across them and learn the OLL algorithm for them. Once you're averaging around 15-16-17 seconds you should go ahead and learn the rest of them meaning Full OLL. Then it's all advanced stuff from there on.
