Thanks! Do you think I should stick with 2 look OLL + COLL? Well, I can learn the dot cases, which could save me at least 10 sec (tested it a few mins ago).

I just finished learning CLL for 2x2. I'm pretty solid with sune, anti sune, H, Pi, and L. It takes a while for me to recognize some T and U cases. Is this normal? Will my recognition get alot better?

Yes it is, I find some case harder than others, not recognition, but working out which case belong to which alg, I can recognise the cases really well, just can't realise what algs to do fast enough. And some time I mix up and have to do a t perm or y perm at the end, suks.

Can I improve by at least 1 minute without learning more algorithms?

A lot more than that. Centers require exactly zero algorithms, and same goes for the edges except for parity (yes there exists a full set of algorithms for all possible cases for the last two edges, but you can get by fine with a single parity algorithm and nothing else - I did for a long time). The *only* place where algorithms come into play here is the last layer, but considering that the last layer is such a small portion of the entire solve compared to 3x3, that doesn't matter so much either. Improvement at 5x5, especially from your level, has nothing to do with learning algs and is all about learning how to be more efficient and how to lookahead. It's fully possible to knock 3+ minutes off that time without any alg-learning.

When Florian modding a 5x5 center corner according to Florians mod you have to round the "shaft" down and also round down 3 (or was it 4) corners around the corner piece (like around the sticker) a little bit. I didnt do that to mine (I only modded the shaft of the center corner piece, I know that part of the mod I did well); could that be the cause of seldom pops? What is the main purpose of this specific part of the mod?

I didn't mod three corners of the center-corner piece. I rounded out the corner that the stalk comes off from, and rounded out the stalk a bit as well (helps create that hole where the corner, center corner, and edge-edges meet). I believe this part of the mod helps increase corner cutting and reduce outer layer lock ups. I believe over modding this piece will lead to pops.

Are you saying you don't have pops and that's a problem?

I'm having some pops but since I'm so new to 5x5 I dont quite yet know if its because of my crappy turning or the mod. I'm very used to 45 degree cuts on a 3x3 and 34 degree cuts on a 4x4. On a 5x5 an equal cut (1 cubie / 1 cubie and a half) would be 27 degrees only when I'm used to being able to cut "more".

I sometimes (pretty rare, I'm turning fairly slow to be sure) get a corner center piece pop and sometimes an edge piece pops out right with it. I dont know if this counts as stable and I have to chill out or work on accuracy. I dont know if it's an overmod. The corner center pieces look fine to me.

The only things I know I did wrong (if you think of Florians original mod to be perfect) is that I did not round all the edges of the center corner pieces. I just rounded the stalk to make it round and to form the hole. I also modded one single edge piece way too much (got a hole to show in the plastic), but the pops have never happened next to this piece so I doubt it's affecting performance.

if you get corner pops on 5x5 then you're doing something really wrong

When I modded my 5x5, I didn't even pop off the center caps to play with the tensions. The result was a slightly loose cube that would pop center corners and center edges. Once I tensioned it a *little* tighter, those pops disappeared. I'm relatively new to 5x5, so my turning is not accurate or pretty. If playing around with the tensions won't fix it, then it could be an issue with the modding.

Is there an UWR for a rubik's brand rubiks cube?

Considering 2x2 scrambles are generally short. If your solution is the reverse of the scramble in a comp. Is that allowed?

I just got a PB of 1.92, but the moves I used to make the first layer were the reverse of the scramble. I didn't realize until I did the solve again and checked.

Sure. You don't know the scramble so if you get lucky, that's fine.
