My solves are like 1:30 so I don't need to switch. But when should I? When I get sub 40?

Well, I switched to a GuHong v2 when I got under a minute average. I would say to speed up with Fingertricks, F2L, and 2 look OLL/PLL, and once you're under a minute buy a cube like the Guhong v2, Zhanchi, or Fangshi Shuang Ren. But really it doesn't matter too much when you switch.

Just getting back in the game and have a few questions.

What are the current best cubes 2x2-4x4? and where to buy them cheapest shipped to united states.

My current 3x3 is stickerless with torpedoes. Not sure which cube it is.

I have been stuck at 22-26 sec averages since I last cubed heavily, any tips?

IMO, the ShengShou 4x4 and the WitTwo 2x2 are really good

I currently own 5 different 4x4s
an eastsheen - bad
maru - favorite since all layers turn evenly
i believe its a dayan + mf8 - isnt as smooth as maru
a mini dayan - middle layer i awesome, outer layers are terribad.
and an unknown cube that is slightly smaller than a maru, the only other thing i can notice is that all of the pieces are capped.

I wish all cubes had a make and model on them somewhere like cards.

After a year of not cubing I have no idea what any of my cubes are.

2x2: wittwo v1 (most people think v2 is not as good), dayan, fangshi and moyu might be good (have not been released yet)
3x3: dayan guhong v2, dayan zhanchi, dayan lingyun v2, fangshi shuangren, moyu huanying
4x4: shengshou v3 modded (v3s are out of production now however so very hard to find), shengshou v5 unmodded, some people think v-cube is good but very expensive

2x2: Dayan or witwo. They have a different feel, but they perform the same. Depends on what you prefer.

3x3: MoYu WeiLong coming up, if it has fixed the problems with the HuanYing it will be one of the fastest cubes out there. FangShi ShuangRen is also great and so is the Zhanchi. Guhong v2 is also great, its a smoother cube that the rest I mentioned.

4x4: I have a Maru, Rubiks, QJ, Eastsheen and a ShengShou v4. I konsta and florian modded my SS v4 and its by far better than anything else I own. I used the maru with full bright stickers and lubed it with Maru lube and averaged like 1:40-1:50 with worst times being +2mins. I bought the SS v4 and modded it and now like a month later my average is in the range of 1:20, very close to 1:10-1:15 range.

It doesnt matter which version of the SS 4x4 you have; v5 is very close to the konsta mod but not quite there afaik, so it needs a very minor konsta mod. Over modding ruins it so you might not want to mod at all and maybe just break it in. The florian mod is just a nice little tweak since it makes the corner cuts a little better + reverse corner cuts possible.

My SS 4x4 v4 was modded and lubed exactly like is done in cyoubx's tutorial and it is amazing (even though I lubed the core with diff oil. With shock oil I still heared spring noises so I took a risk and diassembled it. Turns out there were even multiple washers in some centers and that the washers were of a horrible quality.) I can cut 22.5% and reverse corner cut around 1/3 of a cubie. A bigger florian mod would probably get better corner cuts but I'm not sure if overmodding the florian mod will ruin the puzzle. The florian mod part of the modding takes a long time and I dont want to do it with only sandpaper ever again.

Sidenote: The SS 4x4 costs like 3-4 dollars when bought from certain shops like zcube.cn ( shipping not included) so you might want to buy a few if you're modding it.

Mostly the loud and cheap feeling of the cube. Nothing that actually matters in terms of performance. I'm guessing the cheap feeling and loudness comes mostly from the hollow pieces scratching, so that seems to be fixed with the WeiLong. I'll be reviewing the WeiLong when it comes out, I suppose there is no real difference since the mechanics seem to be much the same.

I read about someone asking when he/she should switch from a rubiks brand to a speedcube, and many suggested to keep at it until he/she reached at least sub 30.

I'm currently getting worse times than I used to. I'm currently at around 22-24 second average, which is 4 seconds slower than I used to be. Do you guys think training 3x3 with a slower cube would help me get better? I dont have an intermediate cube but I do have an excellent SS 4x4 and I suppose it counts as "an intermediate 3x3".

What should my goal with the 4x4's 3x3 phase to be if I'm aiming for A) steady sub 20 average on regular 3x3 and B) average of sub 1 4x4 including the possibility of parity.

The cube isn't gonna help your times. Instead, simply focus on the age-old advice of slowing down and looking ahead.

I have read that there is two different versions of the wittwo 2x2 and one is better, however this one doesnt say which version

http://www.cubedepotusa.com/apps/webstore/products/show/2830631

and does anyone know how many mm it is, my current cube is 50 and noticed the dayan has a 50 and a 46 available.
not sure if smaller will make a difference or not.

If it's the same as the picture, then it's the v1 (preffered by nearly everyone). You can tell because the core is close to the center of the cube, you can see the screw easier, whereas on the v2 it's deeper.

I know you're right but I was just hoping there was another way :D

But one question remained unanswered; whats a good speed for 3x3 phase after Yau when speedsolving the 4x4 if my goal is sub 1? Is it just 40-20 for yau-reduction + 3x3?
