The One Answer Question Thread

Do people whose main hand is the right hand do U layer turns in Z and H permutations with their left hand and M turns with their right hand or vice versa?

I do M2 and M' lefty. I think it's nice since most other turns are with the right hand. Same with D2.

lefty here, M turns with right hand and U with left hand.

So, according to this right-handers should do M with left hand and U with right hand?
I tried this and it felt really awkward in the beginning but after playing with the cube a bit this felt really great. I could do M' faster and overall it felt faster, even though for now I am slow as hell with the Z perm. I guess I should practice it this way. Thanks!

I usually do M slices with my right hand, but as a roux user I've also trained my left hand.
For H-perm I do
M'2 (right ring->middle) U' (left index) M'2 (right ring->middle) U'2 (left index->ring) M'2 (right ring->middle) U' (left index) M'2 (right ring->middle)

For Z-perm I do
M'2 (right ring->middle) U' (left index) M' (r-ring) U'2 (l-index->ring) M'2 (right ring->middle) U'2 (left index->ring) M' (r-ring) U (L-index push) MRr' (M -- left index pull)

EDIT: also, I'm right handed

Interesting... I started practicing the M turns with left and U turns with right hand fingers and it feels great, now Z perm takes 3.5 seconds and that was achievd after practicing for half an hour. Previously it was all done with my right hand and times were always 4+ seconds. I will try your version also to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your answer!

11.37 doesn't work, does it?

There are a few results of 11.37 in the WCA, most seem to be from 2007, so probably a different version, the other that I found is this (pyraminx):
2499 | Bastien Roussel | 17.64 | France | Phalsbourg Open 2012 | 11.37 16.60 19.67 24.57 16.64
Maybe gen3 or a +2? idk. It definitely seems to be a very rare time indeed.

For the H, I do all the m slices with my left and the U's with my right. And for the Z, it's all the same thing.

EDIT: oh yeah, and I'm right handed. But in roux for the MOOO's I use my right hand for all.

I started practicing it the same way and guess what? Z perm, which I hated doing, is my favourite permutation now and now I can do it in 3 seconds!

All M moves with left hand (pinky, ring, and index) all the time and any U/U'/U2 with right hand, although occasionally I'll do U moves with my left, but only if my hand is on position after an M slice.

For H perms and Z perms, it's always left hand ring/middle and right hand for U's.

Is it legal to wear a bandaid on your finger in competitions when you're doing OH? I always scrape off a bit of skin when I OH solve for a long period of time, and when I put on a bandage on my forefinger, it makes turning U a lot easier.
