When doing the first 2x2x1 in ZZF2L, is it necessary to put it in its correct spot, similar to CFOP (slot and edge matching up with EOLINE) and then finish the side CFOP F2L-slot style, or should we think of the first 3x2x1 as one step (after mastering them as two separate steps)?

Sometimes when solving a 2x2x1 that belongs in the front slot, I will put it in the back slot an R or L' away to make lookahead easier, until I finish the 3x2x1, which usually isn't one step for me. I could do left square then right square then right pair then left pair, or any other combination depending on what comes up.

Long story short, it isn't nessecary for it to be in it's correct spot at first, and I don't think that the 3x2x1 should be considered a true step as much as a common, and viable way to solve the F2L. ZZF2L is very flexible.

How did Jessica Fridrich find the algorithms for her method?

I wonder if she used something like a strategy or only intuition. I am a beginner with the cube, so i can't understand how algorithms can be found.

Targeted trial and error + commutator knowledge will go a pretty long way

- Take out an F2L pair, put it back in another way and see how it affects the other pieces.
- Repeat in a slightly different way
- Make combinations
- Throw in some extra manipulations before putting the pair back
- Combine with commutators or 2C2E swaps

very situational, because sometimes putting it so that the 2x2x1 is one turn away like F-perm said sets up another easy pair to do to finish that side easily, sometimes it doesn't help. i've found it helps more often than it has no effect. just be open about what you can do in F2L, because for ZZ it's so flexible and unless you take advantage of that, it's actually pretty inefficient

I have a question guys. I'm looking to re-sticker my 55mm Zhanchi and I'm curious as to what size stickers it needs. I was looking on cubesmith and I'm wondering if I could use the "small size stickers" from there on it. Any help would be appreciated.

I was lubricating my 50mm zhanchi and when re-assembling I misplaced a screw. The 50mm screws are different than 57mm or 55mm. I have contacted several cube stores and none of them were able to get me a screw. Does anyone know where I could get one or trade you for it?

Hi as I'm new to this forum, I was wondering what would be a good way to start memorizing OLL's and PLL's. I use badmephisto.com right now.

P.S. I can do the layer-by-layer method in 25ish seconds and know F2L.

Check the speedsolving wiki for algs, some of badmaphsto's are just dire.

I got something interesting while solving 3*3*3..

Every piece is solved except for two adjacent edge pieces which happen to be flipped the wrong way.. It looks like this. Any alg for this?
