y2 is ALWAYS unnecessary, unless an algorithm requires it.

Not really. All rotations are unessecary all of the time, but sometimes they are beneficial.
No algorithm requires a y2. Say the algorithm was F y2 F. You could just do F B and end up with the same result.
I do see your point though.

So is the Shengshou 4x4 v4 worth it? I have a v3 and I was wondering if I should buy it. I know it is cheap, but I would rather spend 10 dollars on something else, unless the v4 really is worth it.

Would an extra move be more optimal than a cube rotation?

Say you hit a U perm, should you line up the finished side and put it in the back, risking a cube rotation, or no?

Actually, for U perm, you should learn to do it from both sides ("finished" side in the front or back). It's not that hard. Then you probably won't have to do a cube rotation except for the case when the "finished" side is already matching the correct colour but it's not oriented correctly from your view for your alg. Then you either do a rotation or do what 5BLD suggested. Except I don't think it is always faster to do two extra moves. It could be faster to do a cube rotation. It depends on what the initial moves are and on cubing style. If you are fast at rotations then do that instead.

The v4 Is better than the v3 out of the box, but of you are willing do do the florian+Konsta mods, the v3 is far superior, even if you mod them both.

So, mod your v3 and it will be the best. K?

I just realized I may have gotten a ss 4x4 v4 or a v2 instead of a v3 and I just want to know which one it is. What's the difference between v2 and v4?
I already modded it (florian and konsta) and it didn't make much of a difference in turning.

Compare edge pieces with the pictures here.
If it looks like the v3 edges I'd guess it's a v4.

the v2 is older and v4 is newer

Why are you so unhelpful and cold?

How do you know it isn't a V3? Where did you get it?

Stickerless cubes: legal or not?

Ok, so I heard from a friend that stickerless (colored) cubes are not WCA/official competition legal because you can sorta see what the other side of the edge piece is because it's made of 2 different colored pieces of plastic. Is this true?

here's a pic:

if you can see, you can tell what the other side of the edge is going to be.

that's true but there legal for BLD solving BTW the WR for BLD was done with a stickerless Dayan.

Bump...
(I did manage to solve by rescrambling a couple of times; but I'd still be interested to know why it happens if anyone knows)

I think it is explained in this video. The algorithms are also listed in the description.

What's the Size of a ShengShou 6x6 Core Screw?

Recently, I was trying to adjust the tension of my ShengShou 6x6. Unfortunately, in the process, I messed up the screws as I grinded away some of the metal from the screw from unscrewing it. I want to make a trip to the hardware store to see if they have the screws. But just to be sure, I just wanted to know what the size of the screw is. Thanks for the help!
