Honestly, that doesn't sound very normal. And I'm not sure I understand your method, unless it's just Layer by Layer. Match 3 of the same inner corners, (which is the middle piece in the row of three), and fill the gaps with the correct edges until you reach the last layer. I used this to average 12s when I first started solving the pyraminx.
 
I just de-stringed my magic. I tried putting it back together but I ended up losing 1 string. Will my magic fall apart on me? It actually feels pretty stable right now.

I match up the tips with the inner corner. Your method sounds more efficient, I'll try that.

If you're doing corners last it's L4C (last 4 corners), of which there are a ton of algs. Much easier to do corners then edges.

Old Alpha cubes are good (Alpha I), and the Ghost Hand I and Ghost Hand II are also similar in feel, but a lot more bubbly. The Edison cube is also pretty similar to a Rubik's brand, but it's rather expensive and requires a lot of break-in time.
 
How do I get faster at F2L? I'm new and I constantly practice the cases, but I always find myself stopping to think about the next pair.
 
Honestly, this goes away with practice. Knowing how to execute certain F2L cases is killer. At first, it seems like you are just getting slower. After a while though, you stop having to think about it.
Maybe other people have more suggestions, but I know I struggled with this for a while, it's just like learning algorithms for OLL or PLL - at first, you have to think about which algorithm you are supposed to use, but after time and practice, it just becomes natural. Sorry.

Since you have access to all your averages, you could just copy them into a spreadsheet to view a graph showing your progress.

Any easy way to automate the process? I have 1000's of solves xP...you can export to CSV, but I can't figure out how to make that usable from there...

The best way I found was to do heaps of solves, and through the f2l stages, go super slow, look the cube over heaps, and work out the best algs for each situation. After a solid weekend, my speed improved heaps. I'm close to continuous f2l now, so just more practice.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

You'll find that it'll take two weeks to realize all the cases(well, that's how long it took me to convert from beginner's). I'd suggest going slowly during the F2L stage, and also be looking for the next corner when you're finishing the previous pair.
 
Which one is correct
A:"I solved a Rubik's cube today."
B:"I solved Rubik's cube today."

Also, let's say at a competition, the person who scrambles my cube, pops it and puts the edge back in the wrong orientation. During my solve, if I find that it is unsolvable, do I get another attempt or do I have to manually flip the edge? Or can I solve it until ONLY the edge is flipped incorrectly so that it still counts as a solve?
If I pop my cube myself, and put the edge in wrong, do I have to fix it again, or can I just stop the timer when ONLY the edge is flipped incorrectly?
For feet, can I sit on the floor during my solve? Or do I have to sit on a chair?
Also, I was thinking of making a thread for general speedsolving wiki discussions, I know there are discussions for each specific article already, but this thread could potentially help the wiki much more by having general discussions of the wiki. So, should I make this thread?


edit: Thanks Sarah. Just need some clarification on the feet solving though. What does "sitting on the surface" mean?

The first one, since a cube is called "a Rubik's cube". Of course that doesn't make the most sense, but that's how the term is being used.

If you find that the scrambler accidentally made your cube unsolvable, you get to redo the solve with a different scramble (usually the inverse of the original scramble).

It needs to be in a solved state in the end. So if you pop by accident, and you put an edge in incorrectly, you'll have to take it out and put it back in at some point.
