I recently took up speedcubing, and I really want to begin competing. My best AVG5 is 30.53 and my PB is 24.56. Would I embarrass myself? Also, Are there any competitions in the vicinity of NYC? I do not want to travel very far.

I got a 40 second average in my first comp ( I was nervous so I did slightly worse than my at home average — and one of my times was over a minute!) I still had lots of fun though, so you should definitely go to a comp.

Like Michael said, try the Newark Comp, or you can also go to SJC. (If you haven't already, I would register an account on Cubing USA)

HELLO!!! Yesterday, while I wasn't looking, somebody switched two of the stickers on my rubiks brand 3x3. I already have a zhanchi but I like being able to have a cube that I can take with me everywhere without worrying about getting it dirty or broken. So the million dollar question: After I switched the two stickers back, they won't stay on the cube very well. How can increase the life of those peeled stickers?

try gluing them in place (super glue might work well)

Pardon the OT post, but I need the opinions of some other intelligent people. Arguing over mere semantics is getting old, and my friend agreed that if I could get others to offer their opinions he'd shut his mouth.

Brand is only a title, in most cases it does not dictate what the product actually is, right? The specific example here, http://duckbrand.com/Products/duck-tape/color-duck-tape.aspx That is not some new type of tape, it is just a new brand name for an old product; duct tape, yes?

Well that stuff's colored. So, no, it is not a new name on the old product. It is a whole new product - colored duct tape. :P

same stuff that they have made for the past 20 years

My friend and I have been arguing over what the definition of a lucky solve is. He says that it's when you get your best oll or pll, but I think it's a lucky solve if you skip a step. Which one of us is right?

Find your average number of moves in a solve. A lucky solve is when you have a solve that is 5* (or more) moves less than your average.

*I used 5 moves as an example; some could say it is another number.....This makes me curious though. How many moves fewer than your average, would a solve have to be for YOU to consider it to be lucky. (You being anyone who wants to answer :p )

Not cube related: just want your opinions

Someone took the first half of algebra 2 but the school didn't have room for them to take the second half so they put them in pre calculus. If they want to take calculus next year should they try to get the counselor/school to let them take the second half of pre calculus and give up the second half of their english class or should they only take the second half of precalculus next year? (10th grader, all the classes are graduation requirements, next year is ACT/SAT year and stuff, worried about colleges being like, "why did you only take .5 credits of math junior year?") yes I realize how confusing it sounds but I'm not sure how to reword it.

how could they not have room??
arent u enrolled in a class for the whole year?
but anyway
i guess u should take the second half of precalc
cuz if u dont ur gonna be really confused in calc
if i read it wrong sorry cuz im kinda confused by what u mean

What kind of school separates algebra into two sections? That is complete BS that they won't let the person into a class. There is obviously room. It is their obligation to be able to provide that class to him/her. Have them complain to the school until they change his/her schedule so he/she can get all her/his credits. Under the law, they have to provide that person with education of the required curriculum.

My school does trimesters. Algebra 2 is an 11th grade class and they basically stuff all the 11th graders in that class which means there's no room for 10th graders because the 11th graders are busy learning ACT stuff.

When should I take it though? This year or next year? I'm mostly just worried about what the colleges will think when they see my transcript and they see I only did 1/2 a math class junior year.

How many turns would suffice for a 2x2 scramble (I'm not doing optimal or suboptimal, so that's not an option)? I would think 15, but some might argue 20.

So 15 or 20 turns for a 2x2 scramble (3-gen)

I have no idea why but the number 11 is flashing in my head. I know that 11 is some sort of important number for 2x2 scramble, but I don't know why >__>

11 is the most # of moves needed to solve it.

However, I don't want to use 11, as it wouldn't provide good quality scrambles (IMO). I know that skewb uses 15 (normally), and it also has god's number at 11, which is why I chose 15. I just wanted to see what people thought though

let me get this straight
so ur in ninth grade and u took half of algebra 2 and half of pre calc this year
next year in tenth grade ur not sure whether to take half of pre calc or half of english
if u take the half of english then u would take precalc in 11th grade.
am i getting this straight?
ok. heres a question: would u be allowed to take half of precalc and half of calc in 11th grade?
cuz then u would have a full year of math for junior year

I need a cube as a important prop in my film thing. I'm gonna put cube smith chrome stickers on it. What would you recommend It needs to look cool. I was thinking guhong white, guhong v2 white, or guhong yellow. I don't wanna get another zhanchi.

I'm in 10th. Thing is calc is a college class so you can't really take half of it. Calculus is a year long class. I don't want to be a junior stuck in a junior class for math (nerdy, i know) so I already decided to test out of algebra 2. It's just the precalculus that I'm worried about because if I don't finish it I can't do calculus.
