Most people use a specific face to start, as they are used to it and its surroundings.
Some people are colour neutral and find the easiest cross
While the second one sounds better, according to a survey, the average time of colour neutral cross was 10-15% more than a colour biased cross but average moves is less.

When they start off, they usually use only one layer. As they progress and get fast enough, they learn to on it on every side. (optional though)

well a U2 is 2 moves but most cubers learn a U2 flick as they call it. It can be mastered and done just as fast or faster than a plain U move.

Isn't U2 one move?
If you get a U2 on a solve, it is considered +2

I was color neutral from when I first started learning how to solve a cube, so I always go for the easiest cross.

Question- I Read at many places that a cross can be solved in at most 8 moves, with 99.95% in 7 or less. So if we do something like U2 do we take it 1 move or 2 moves? (i=noob)

There are three 'metrics' for counting moves. HTM (Half Turn Metric) is the official one, which counts U2 as one move.

WCA uses face-turn-metric, or half-turn-metric or whatever it's called. (ninja'd)
U2 is only 2 moves in quarter-turn-metric.

When people say the cross can always be solved in 8 moves does that count the adjustment, or just putting the pieces in the right places relative to each other?

Is there a way to recognize the "small L" OLLs quickly? (olls like this)

With most OLLs, I just see the pattern on top and then I look at a certain side or two, and I'm good.
But with these, I haven't found a good strategy yet. First I notice the pattern on top, and then I look all around to check if there are 3 yellow stickers on any side, and I also check if there is a block of 2 yellow stickers anywhere. So right now these are basically "3-look" OLLs for me.
