Anyone have a disassembly tutorial for the mf8 gigaminx? I'm dying to lube it but can't sem to find an effective way to take a piece out (that and I don't wanna break it by forcing a piece out). Thanks in advance wonderful fellow cubers. :)

Sorry for the almost double post but I've got another question. Has the cubing community reached a concencus on shock oil? I just used up my last bit of lubix on my gigaminx so I'm in need of new lube. If the cubing community is in agreement that shock oil is as good as lubix. Then that's the route I'll go, if not then lubix it is.

Edit: thanks for the link Ben, an thanks to MeMyselfandPi for creating so many kicka** and helpful videos.

rumors say lubix is just high weight differential oil 30k-50k
shock oil has a much lower viscosity and lower weight

In competition, if I put my hands on the Stackmat, and realise I'd rather start off with the cube in a different orientation, can I turn the cube around with my hands still on the timer? I do this while holding the spacebar sometimes when I predict OLL for 2x2, so that I won't have to AUF before the OLL. Would this even work with a Stackmat, and is it allowed?

I tried doing this last comp I went to. I believe you are allowed but you have to ask the judge for permission. However I would also check the regulations. I tried doing it in OH

Anyone much experience with Cubesmith tiles on their v-cubes?

Chipped a lot of stickers breaking in my v5 this week, and with the v6 and v7 on their way it seems my heavy handedness is less friendly to stickers on bigger cubes.

My V-Cube stickers are nearly mint. Even on my 5x5 which I've had for months. Try keeping your nails short. As far as tiles go I'd only out them on a puzzle I know I'm not toin to solve very often and when I do it will be purely for recreation and not speedsolving. For aesthetics go with tiles. For performance go with stickers.

@the stackmat question

When I realize I out my cube down in a bad orientation I just hit the power button and turn it off, reorient, turn it back on, and then start my solve. Maybe illegal but idc.

Thanks, I think its the nails in all honesty! Only 2 weeks growth but enough to make a big difference when exaggerating moves breaking in. I'll cut them and keep an eye on the vinyl! :)

Ugh I apoligze for the horrible errors in that post. I guess that's what auto correct and no proofreading does for ya.

Yea whenever my nails get long though my stickers chip so I keep them pretty short.

The WCA regulations with special stuff like the stackmat issue..I just read a good chunk of the regulation (anything that could apply to this question) and the end result I got from it is that they want special incidents like this to be treated fairly. It's obvious that the judge (shouldn't) won't care about it, and plus it's not fair to not allow yourself to rotate the cube as you see fit (as long as you don't go over 15/17 seconds total inspection).

i just got my first ever sq1,its mf8 brand.

The R layer moves well smooth and freely, but the U and D layers are a bit stiff and they dont turn well.
Has this happened with anyone else before? How to make U and D layers turn well? Do i need to lubricate it?if yes, then how to do it?

Sorry if i sound dumb,i'm not familiar with the sq1 notation yet

Is it the ball core sq1?
I got the same problem, took it apart and sanded some bumps in the pieces in the down side of the portion that goes inside the ball core
Notation

Q: I don't know much about cube brands but I see people talking about the ghosthand 2x2 as the same as the shengshou 2x2, but now Im reading about a GH 4x4, is it the same cube as the shengshou 4x4?
