In a cubing competition, with the 15 second countdown, can we start off any time we want, I read some rules and stuff but it was not very clear on when we can start. No, you can start whenever you feel like it.

I avg sub-30 with my 3x3x3 rubik's.com DIY but I avg 50-60s with my 4x4x4 mefferts.
both cubes are lubed good.
what is the peroblem? what should I do?

EDIT: I mean 50-60 seconds while solving the 4x4 as a 3x3.

Lookahead, always. When you can't improve your lookahead, then you can optimise your solutions more. But it's better to use 5 more moves for F2L and turn consistently.
