I'm 32 years old, started cubing about 6 months ago (learning full Fridrich now, 45" avg and 35.64 PB).

I'm aware that starting cubing at this age makes things a little more difficult than starting at a youger age (say, when you are 15 years old) if you are looking for speed. So the question: any of you guys also started cubing in their 30s+, and how fast you were after 6 months? Do you think that age plays a big factor in speedcubing?

Its nice to join this forums, btw :)

Well it just depends. I have been cubing for going on 6 months now. And I am avging about 16 sec and 30 OH. But I dedicate A LOT of time to cubing. But yes Age does pose a sleight disadvantage the older you get. But then again. Jessica Fridrich is pretty insane. who knows how old she is ( somebody does I don't)

The "efficient" way being? I just do about 1 straight hr daily, add few solves every now and then during the day. My recognition time kills me (I spend about 1-3 seconds recognizing PLL for example, and 1-2 on F2L pairs/moves to solve intuitively).

what is PB? 35.64 PB?

Well I'm not at all an expert. But what I do is I practice Bld f2l and cross. and it dropped mine from 15-20 to 9-12 in about amonth. I also just slowed down my turning so that I could AT LEAST track the next corner or edge of my next pair... That probably didn't help but... I practice almost all day. whenever I'm not doing anything I'm cubing. I'd say for an hour a day you are progressing quite normally. The more you concentrate on an area the faster that area will get better. Develope a strategy that works for you. ask around and use what other people say to make your own practices better.

THanks :) And where can I get some good CLL algs (printable). I've seen kungfoomachu's site, but it seems confusing for me.

In competition, can you specify what colors you on U and F before the judge presents the cube to you?

Also, I have ear muff style hearing protection (I don't know what you call them) to block out sound while I'm doing BLD. There are no electronics in them. Are these legal for competition?

I don't think you'll be able to ask them to orient the cube, but I'm not sure.
I've seen ear muffs get used before, so that's fine.

4d) Cube puzzles must be scrambled with the white (or the lightest colour by default) face on top and green (or the darkest adjacent face by default) on the front.

Mm but that talks about scrambling not how its presented to the competitor. Does it just imply thats how the competitor "receives it"?

He's not asking how it's scrambled but how he receives the cube.
I'm not absolutely sure. You can try asking, but I kind of doubt they will. Just orient it yourself during your inspection time if they don't have it the way you want.
