About how much slower would an average be if you started on a stackmat vs. if you started like erik did in his latest 9.49 avg12 video. (w/ a spacebar, plus hands surrounding the cube) Watch that video for a couple solves and you'll see what I mean.

I ask, because I started my solves like him on a 15.22 avg12. Just want to see the comparison to a stackmat.

When taking an average of 12, do you only take away the highest and lowest times, or do you take the top two and lowest two, etc.

I'm currently learning the 4x4. I've watched both LtbK's and monkeydude's 4x4 tutorials but they're sometimes a little bit hard to follow and don't show all the cases.

Any good tips on where to learn the "beginners method"? It's the last pairs that ****s it up for me, I think.

I guess I'll just have to pay more attention on the tutorials

The only "beginner's method" for reduction would be 1 pair at a time.
If you're talking about the last 2 pairs, then you have to flip around the edges so that the opposite colors on the edges are matching (if they're not already, use R U R' U' F' U F with the two edges to be paired in FR and FL to match them) and when they're correct use (Dd)' F U F' L F' L' F (Dd) to match them.

I'm using all white cubes, but I'm thinking of switching to black, because i THINK it helps with recognition and F2L look ahead. I'm not too sure of this though, but is it worth it to buy black versions of my cubes?
