I started learning full OLL last Saturday and I have learned 30 cases so far, my times have gone from averaging about 23 to 26. I know that it is normal for times to go up when learning F2L, but did this ever happen to you guys while learning full OLL? I probably shouldn't of learned 5 a day, but what do you think I should do, accept that my recognition will suck until I practice more and continue learning them at a little slower pace, then really work on recognition when I finish, or stop where I am at and get the ones I know down better?
How many you learn doesn't really matter because what you really need to be doing is practicing until your recognition gets better.

First of all, you're recognition time may have increased, and most importantly, you shouldn't see a significant increase in time until you learn everything. This is because if you only know about 20 cases, you have to decide whether to use 1L or 2L OLL, which slows your times even more as you're actually considering more factors.

My recommendation would be to learn them 4-8 at a time. First drill them until you have them in muscle memory (a few days). That's a good way to warm up for cubing sessions. Then start incorporating them into your solves, working on recognition. Don't try to learn more until you have fully assimilated those and have no hesitation with recognition or execution (a couple of weeks).

Also learn them in a sensible order. Search "when and how to move to 1-look OLL" for my guide on that.

Thanks guys! I will work on recognizing the ones that i know for a couple of days. I will probably just do a couple hundred LS + LL solves hopefully i can sub 10 them.

That's probably a good idea. When I learned full OLL, I started with the cases with the highest probability (per Andy Klise's guides). After that I filled in the gaps in order of badmephisto's website, which puts everything in a simple logical order based on common triggers. Hope that helps your OLL journey!

If you keep turning {R U R U} etc., how many moves will it take to solve a 3x3x3?

I've been curious for a while about this. I can't even begin to speculate about the answer, but I was wondering if someone else has already found it.

EDIT: Thanks! Anybody know how many cycles of {R U L D} it would take?

I see that this thread has been moved and along with it some posts deleted. I was in the middle of editing my post...

The trick to this is to find how many time it takes to solve the corners by repeating R U. You then do the same for edges and find the LCM of the two numbers. For (R U) the corners are solved in 15 repetitions while the edges are solved in 7 so it takes 105 repetitions.

For (R U L D)

(R U L D)3 does a pure flip sune orientation case for the corners in the back layer, so (R U L D)9 resolves the corners.
(R U L D) leaves the edges a 7 cycle and a 5 cycle. The LCM of 7 and 5 is 35, so the edges are resolved from (R U L D)35.
LCM of 9 and 35 are 315.

Be cautious trying to apply what I did with the edge cycles. You can keep repeating the sequence a few times until edges are closer to solved and its easier to find a cycle, but you may end up with a multiple of the 35 moves required to solve the edges. Also, note that it wouldn't be that simple if the move-set didn't preserve EO. The orientation thing is also why you wouldn't normally use this for corner cycles.

Or you could just use this.

Hi, I haven't looked up about cubing for months now. And can someone tell me the latest best cubes now? :)

2x2 - ??
3x3 - ??
4x4 - ??

And other types of cubes if you know...

2x2: Dayan, MoYu LingPo
3x3: Honestly there are too many but these are a few of the popular ones - MoYu WeiLong(V1 and V2), Dayan Zhanchi, FangShi ShuangRen V2, YJ YuLong, MoYu LiYing, MoYu AoLong, Gans III 57mm
4x4: MoYu AoSu
5x5 and up: ShengShou (for now)

I am confused right now because i dont know if its me or the cube. I feel like my ChiLong is slowing me down badly. Like really, because im working on my TPS, the lockups are a major problem. Especially when im doing the last layer. And i am pretty sure that i am not oveershooting or anything like that, and i have lubed it really nice. Not sure if i should try looser tensions or anything, whats your suggestion? Thanks.

Also, stickerless Zhanchi is on the way, hoping that that will fix the problems.

Where can I buy a set of the softer springs that came with the Maru CX3? I put them in a weilong that I didn't like and now it's amazing. I've only found them on The Cubicle but I don't want to pay $6 shipping for a $2 order. Or, are there similar springs that can be purchased for cheap?

you average barely sub 30. hardware makes pretty much no difference.

I'm averaging 20 sec and know intuitive f2l with a few algs, 20/57 OLL and full PLL. My F2l takes 12.13 sec(ao12) in the 20sec, which means that the LL takes up the remaining 7.87 sec. should I work on lookahead or other things? please precise how to practice.

Yep. It's got to be partially you, anyway. If you're convinced it's not (which may be the case) buy a couple new cubes to try which might suit you better.

Thanks to both of you! Ill experiment with this one untill my Zhanchi arrives, and then ill see wether the problem was in me or the cube. My guess right now is both!
