I've been hearing people mention that they've forced PLL/OLL skip. While I can force PLL skip with a couple OLL algs (T and fish patterns), I can't generalise it. Any links?

You can orient all the LL edges by using EOLine

He's talking about forcing PLL.

What most people do in a speed solve is, they know two different algorithms for a case, one gives them a skip, one a PLL. This is how Erik got a WR.
so, are you sure that Erik did a special OLL alg on purpose?

He didn't use a special alg. The most common alg for that case is F RUR'U'(x2) F', which is what he used. I think he may have known it would skip though. Not sure.

Well, I read in a couple different places, I think even the video description, that he knew two algorithms and used the one that would solve the PLL.

How can i disassemble my maru 4x4? This beast seems to be holding together tught...

Say you reach a case with all the edges orientated. Rather than doing your standard OLL, say you did a COLL. This would dramatically improve your chances of a PLL skip, as your corners would already be solved.

I don't know if this is the case with Erik's solve, but it's an example of a way you could attempt to force a PLL skip.

With Erik's 7.08 he did an OLL algorithm that is not the usual one he uses for that case. He used it because he knew it would solve the corners and by luck he also skipped EPLL. Simples.

What? That is so not true. Everyone uses that OLL algorithm for that case. If it would have been another corner setup, I'm sure he would have done the same algorithm. As far as I know he was like: This OLL case... Ah, sweet, the corners will be done, I will have an edge permutation! Or a skip. :P (Btw if he knew it was going to be a skip, his U2 at the end would have been much faster, I think.)

The mistery of him forcing that PLL skip is not true in my opinion. Imagine: You got an F2L done around 5-6 seconds in competition. Would you be starting to think of COLL? I don't think so.

I'm not a pro but I completely agree with these parts.

If you were to reassemble a 4x4 in any scrambled form, would you be able to solve it?

Just something to ask and make things quicker if i dissasemble and reassemble my 4x4.

I still don't get how these bizarre accidents happen to people's cubes. I heard from someone's post that their cube got run over by a car in the driveway once  The worst (mechanical) error I had with a cube was a broken F-II core (Which I glue fixed, but lost it at Ohio Open) and some blacktop dust had gotten in a cube once.

Was the cube that got run over by a car me?
I think it was, I haven't heard of such situations before xD
I broke my f-II core too :o

This is the correct answer. It is very easy to predict corner permutation with that OLL case. So he obviously knew it was gonna be a CP skip, but did not know if it was gonna be an EPLL skip

Well I'm 99% sure this is what I read from Erik himself writing it but it was a while ago so I probably remembered something wrong. Sorry :p
