Perms

Could somebody please explain to me what a perm is? I here the term g perm all the time and I don't know what it means

What is faster during F2L - cube rotations, or using F and B to join and insert pairs? I've tried switching to using F and B and my times have gone up, but it might be because I'm not used to these.

I personally hate using F and B. Really, the only time in which doing a few y rotations during a solve would be bad would be in OH. As long as you're rotating for solving and not in order to find pieces for pairs, rotating and doing something 2-gen is fine. It only starts wasting time when you rotate just to look for pairs. If you find that you're really slow at cube rotations, though, you can always do little d moves, though I suck at doing those during F2L.

I find rotating is a lot faster, and most other cubers also rotate during F2L. Just don't do y2.

Or you could just use Roux or ZZ and not have to rotate or use F/B moves :p

That solve does not count towards your final average

does anything happen to your next time?

Edit:
How do you guys help your nervousness at a competition?

Sorry... I know i have a lot of questions but i'm going to a cubing competition and need a bit of help. Anyway, how would you go around and talk to people, like is it hard to talk or are most cubers talkative?

No. But, as said, if you get 2 DNFs your whole Avg. of 5 would be a DNF.

I'd try to not think about the competition and just think about me at home practicing. But, who am I trying to fool? Even at home, when I start to feel that the solve is gonna be a good one I start to get nervous, my hands get sloppy and I usually spoil the solve with a PLL error, etc.

But look at it this way: you are not in a position to win the comp, right? (judging for your 26.53 on the signature) so, why bother to get nervous? Just enjoy the experience, do the best you can, try to be relaxed and make friends! I'm also thinking of going to my 1st comp either this fall or next year and I'm sure I will be nowhere near my PBs of 17-19sec but, whatever! You will also start appearing in WCA official listings, which is cool ;-), even if your official PB is a 28.xx sec solve.
