Well quite a few people can get sub-4 with Ortega. When you say you pause for a few seconds do you mean that literally? How long does it actually take you to recognize the PBL?

EDIT: This may sound stupid, but how much faster is Ortega than solve a layer, OLL then
PLL?

Here, This ti my time for regular, for 5 of them:
5: 00:09.71
4: 00:13.60
3: 00:09.55
2: 00:12.49
1: 00:14.05

Average: 00:11.88

Now for Ortega:
5: 00:09.95
4: 00:10.77
3: 00:11.52
2: 00:11.63
1: 00:06.33

Average:
00:10.04

The time to solve one layer is around 1.41 seconds

The pause is around like 1 second - 2 second. I think one of the main reasons is that I don't use a speedcubing cube. But I think I still can cut my time down to sub-5. Should I learn like EG? or CLL?

I average 7.46 (ao50 yesterday) with Ortega. I'm doing a LBL average right now and so far I have an 8.47 mo8. I'll do a bunch more later, but I'm in school right now.

Edit:
Average of 50 (w/LBL): 8.45
times:
10.30, 7.99, 7.30, 7.26, 9.69+, 9.36, 6.16, 9.70, 6.95, 13.11, 8.13, 12.25, 11.65+, 9.44, 7.25, 5.97, 8.36, 10.88, 8.60, 4.17, 9.63, 10.53, 7.55, 9.04, 10.12, 8.72, 8.12, 6.67, 8.45, 4.66, 7.40, 5.98, 8.92, 9.08, 6.29, 9.94, 6.60, 9.49, 7.90, 5.96, 10.09, 12.84, 10.00, 9.56, 13.12+, 8.84, 4.57, 4.71, 7.67, 7.20

number of times: 50/50
best time: 4.17
worst time: 13.12

current avg5: 6.53 (σ = 1.59)
best avg5: 6.53 (σ = 1.59)

current avg12: 8.48 (σ = 2.32)
best avg12: 7.61 (σ = 1.35)

current avg50: 8.45 (σ = 1.66)
best avg50: 8.45 (σ = 1.66)

session avg: 8.45 (σ = 1.66)
session mean: 8.48

So LBL is about 1 second slower (for me), but I had a lot of sub-5s, which I don't get that often in Ortega, because the chance of a Permutation skip is lots higher (seeing as how, obviously, a permuted first layer is rare with Ortega. PLL skips came up a fair amount here.)

I created a thread abeout a new method and when I followed a link to it it and it said the thread didn't exist. I created it again ani the same thing happened. I clicked the notify an administrator thing and nothing happened.

I read your thread. It isn't new or easy to solve with. Repetitive threads are either deleted or moved to other threads on the same topic.

Thanks for that. I've been using LBL but I'm trying to get used to Ortega. (My PBL recognition takes ages!)

Fewer moves

I need some tips...
I have an average move count of 65 or so, and I believe I use up a lot of moves for F2L.
I want to reduce my move count by at least 15 moves on average..
Need some help..

So, my x-cube4 popped earlier, and I am having some misalignment issues after reassembly. I would assume there is a specific manner in which the inner portion of the center pieces must be aligned, but I'm not sure what that should be... any tips?

But that is a reference to the Lars Petrus method, right??
I use Fridrich... and I'm not used to building blocks.
I build 2*2*2 corner normally, but i take some time with the 2*2*3...

Don't forget that this is the Fewest Moves Challenge thread.
In FMC you have a full hour to write down your shortest solution for a given scramble.

This thread is not intended for reducing moves in a speedsolve setting.

In general for FMC the approach is: blockbuilding start, leaving only a few pieces to be solved.
Then solvbe these pieces somewhere earlier in the solution with the intention of cancelling some moves.

Example: you solve leaves an A-perm
Instead of solving A-perm in 9 moves you cna ook through your solution if there is a postion where you can cycle these three corners with a std 8 move cycle.
With a little luck you can also cancel some moves at the start or end of the cycle.

question for yau users that do 3-2-2-3 pairing. when your doing the first 3 edges, lets say you have setup the first edge pair like this (except the centers are missallinged by a u')
imgres

like that. what do you do if the next edge you need to setup (bottom FR) is in the other edge (top FL)?

everytime time this happens in a solve i get a really slow edge pairing stage :(

EDIT: picture dosent work, sorry :/

I think I understood your question, so watch this video. If it doesn't have the correct case you are describing, let me know.

I bought my Dayan Zhanchi on eBay, and when I received it, its interiors had, and still have, dust in them.
I don't find any oily lubricant in it, so I FEEL that the dust has been added as a lube.
I don't have a good lube at home either, so should I clean it up?
Does anybody else have this situation?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3*3 single PB- 19.27.
OH PB-1:29.31 (working on it!)

I did not have that situation but, take it apart, clean all the dust out with a wipe or rag or use high pressurized air (bet none of you guys use that :P) and then lube it and tension it. then viola, you got yourself a better cube.
