Is there any way to tell if a corner is twisted when the cube is scrambled? (without solving it duh)

Also, what do I do in this situation: IMG_6434.JPG

Look for groups of 2-4 corners on the same face that look like a possible OCLL, ignore them, and keep eliminating a few pieces until you can see how to make the remaining corners possible (e.g. if one corner is left, make it oriented).

Example scramble: D' B2 U2 B2 U2 L2 U' R2 D F2 L' B' U F' L R' D' F' L2 F2 L', twist UFL clockwise.
On the U face, we have a possible case (one you could get for OCLL), so do an x2.
Here we have an impossible case, so twist any corner to make it into a possible case (e.g. twist UFL CCW or UBR CCW).

Example scramble 2: D B2 L2 U' R2 B2 F2 D' B2 D B' R' U' R2 D2 R' U2 L' D', twist UFR clockwise.
This is a bit more tricky: there are no corners that we can ignore, except the already oriented ones. How do we deal with the four others? I would imagine UBR to be twisted CW. Now look at the UBR corner and the DBR corner: their white/yellow stickers are facing the same way. If two corners do this, they are correctly oriented. However, if we (again, use your imagination in a normal situation) were to do a U' to line up UFL with DFR, their corners would not be oriented the same way, so we would have to twist UFL (or UFR as we're imagining it) clockwise to orient them. Therefore, to solve the twisted corner on this scramble, we need to do two clockwise, or one anticlockwise, twist of any corner.

I'm bad at explaining, but that's the best I could do... hope you could understand it

add up the amount of clockwise 120 degree rotations each corner is from solved, if its 0 mod 3 then there are no corner twists

example: B' U2 B2 L2 F D2 F2 R2 F L2 D L2 F U' R B2 D' R' U B'
oriented = white or yellow on U/D
UFL: 2
UBL: 2
UBR: 2
URF: 1
DBL: 1
DLF: 1
DFR: 2
DRB: 1
total = 12 = 0 mod3 so no corner twists
if ist 1 mod3 then twist a corner clockwise, if ist 2 mod3 then twist it the other way

Anything similar for egdes??

I've been watching fast people solving, and trying to see some things I'm not doing the same, and one is I never push U with my left index from FLU corner, and I see that a lot. What % of your Us are left index flicks vs. standard right index?

i do it all the time in OH, but NEVER in twohanded solving... what i do tho, is pushing at LBU with left index.... works wonders for many algorithms and some F2L cases. I recommend you try it all out and decide yourself what works for you...

same with F'. lot of people do x U', but pushing up from DLR with the right Thumb is really neat for some, including me.

When I do ZZ, I do the mirror quite a bit (maybe on average once a solve?) but for 2H in other methods, never. Not really sure why. It's my only way of doing U' for OH though, so I obviously use it all the time for that.

I do it a lot. In my sune the first U is a left index flick, I also use it sometimes when I'm using my right index finger like in my T perm to avoid lock ups. not sure about a %, but a few times a solve at least.
