Nick Rech uses a modded SS..

Out of the box, the consensus seems to be that Dayan is the better brand. However, after modding, it seems like a lot of people prefer the Shengshou.

I'm no expert on Megaminx, but this is what I've learned around the forums. Any more knowledgeable person should correct me if they know more.

I think the DaYan with ridges has to take it. Lube the springs and the puzzle and it's really good.

I have a stickerless DaYan with ridges and it's super. I also have a very well modded Shengshou. I put blood sweat and time into doing it right and it is smooth but if I can't get the right tiles/grips for it it is not going to outperform the DaYan.

Can anyone link me to a tutorial/video for modding a SS megamimx? I'll probably go with the SS since its cheaper than the dayan

Do take into account a full florian mod takes hours.. Pretty sure a megaminx would take longer than a 5x5, so you're looking at well over 5 hours of work. I'm not sure of an actual modding tutorial of the megaminx in particular, but if you look at a bunch of florian mod tutorials you'll get the idea.

Is it normal to regress ?

I briefly explain myself. I've been cubing seriously for a good month now and average 41s at my best ( ao100 ). Since Sunday I have done no progress at all, I even feel like it gets worse somehow. I also do a lot of slow solving, trying to minimize rotations during F2L, and I also do a few bld crosses from time to time. Until that point, I could always see a clear progression over a few days ( I gained about a second a day from 1mn down to 40sec ), but since a few days I feel like there's a wall. My best F2L is about 18-20sec, but mostly is about 27-30sec, LL taking me 8-15sec depending on algs I have to run.

It's normal for you to slow down slightly as you apply new algs/techniques you have learnt to your speedsolves. Your new technique may not be quite as automatic as the old one, although it's hopefully more efficient, and so will become faster in time.

It's also normal for your progress to slow down. For example, it's easy to progress from 1 minute to 55 seconds, because you're only cutting 1/12th of your total time. When you get to 20 seconds, the same 5 second improvement would be 1/4 of your total time.

Don't worry about it - keep doing what you're doing - speed will come with time. :-D

I don't know if you're answer gave me some special power, but I finally managed to get back to my best times today. I even got a PB ao12 and ao5, at least it's little progress. Do you guys think I should start to learn some more LL algs ? I know full 4-look LL at the moment. And if so, which should I start with ? It seems people usually start with PLL, am I correct ?

Yep. Lots of people get sub 20 or faster without full OLL, but learn full PLL as soon as you can. It's not many algs, and will make a big difference.

Every time I read the WCA regulations looking for a specific regulation I zone out :/

so is a scenario with one corner flipped/one edge flipped considered a dnf?
Yes.
E: this one's for when stuff isn't attached to the cube, but it still makes sense in this situation: 5b5d: If one or more parts [one part = one corner/edge] with more than one coloured face [edge has two, corner has three] is affected, the puzzle is considered unsolved (DNF).
and
10e2: If no further moves are required to bring the puzzle to its solved state, the puzzle is considered solved without penalty.
If no moves are done, the cube is not in its solved state, so does have a penalty. 10e3 says that if you are one move from solving, it's a +2, but this isn't one move.
I can't find the specific regulation for this incident (I have the same problem as you sometimes :p), but you can just disassemble the cube if you get an impossible case.

at my first comp I went to, One of my solves had a twisted corner at the end of it, I did not know of this till I watched my recording and the judge didn't do anything for it. But I know for center caps It is fine to leave 1(maybe more but 100% that 1 is allowed) off. And again I haven't been able to find this scenario in the regs.

That should've been a DNF then.
For centre caps, 5b5b says that one centre (or even corner or edge) cap off is allowable, but more than one isn't, even if they're on the same side (5b5c).

How to Do M'. I read this http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?40427-How-I-perform-M-moves and it says "I use my left ring finger to push on BD towards DF"
Can anyone explain this to me ??

Right thumb is on FR/FRD. Right middle finger is on BR. Right ring finger is on BRD.
Left thumb is on FL/FLD. Left middle finger is on BL/BLD. Left middle finger is on BD. Push your left middle finger (and only that) towards you, so you eventually do an M' only with your left middle finger. Your left middle finger (and the BD edge with it) ends up on the place DF.

I have been cubing for about a year now and love it. I have 2x2-7x7 along with a pyraminx, square 1, and a megaminx. They are all great puzzles and I love them, but I want to get cuboid mod puzzle (the ones that are like 2x3x3, or 2x2x4, etc.). Which puzzle do you think would be a good stater cuboid mod?

I think a 3x3x5 would be a good start but that's just my opinion. Cause the only cubiod part is pairing so you can turn it into a normal 3x3 again. Shouldn't be too hard to learn, that's my opinion though

Are colorblind stickers allowed in competition?

I don't see why they wouldn't be, but I just want to check. Also, has anyone ever used these in competition before?
