Hey folks, any chance there's a list of, along with simple description of, some of the edge pairing methods for big cubes? If no such list exists would any of you all be willing to list a few of them along with descriptions. Right now i'm using the basic freeslice method for 5x5 - 7x7 and it works ok but I'm curious about what else is out there. Thanks y'all.
what is a good timer thats not a stackmat timer? (they cost too much) I heard qj timers suck.
in competition when you do a single, do you do only one solve and they take that time or do you do multiple and they take the best?
In competition (for most events) you do as many solves as you would like/are allowed to do and the fastest solve that you've done is the "single" time. If you happen to do enough solves to qualify for an average (4 for Ao5, 3 for Mo3, etc.) then you also get an "average" time. Hope that makes sense.

As many solves as you're allowed to do. Most events, such as 2x2x2-5x5x5 are average of 5, so you don't get to do more than 5 solves. However, many competitions have a cutoff time for big cubes, so if you don't get a solve below x:xx.xx in your first two solves, you aren't allowed to finish the average. Puzzles that take longer to solve, such as 6x6x6 and 7x7x7, have a mean of 3 format, where you only do 3 solves and the solves are averaged without taking out any times.
In events such as blindfolded/multiple blindfolded and fewest moves, the "average" is determined by best of x, which is where you do as many attempts as the competition allows (for blindfolded, it's typically 2-3 attempts) and the best single time you get is your competition average. The number of attempts you get, the cutoff times, etc depends on the competition.
By the way, I got all this from the WCA regulations, Article 9.
Newb here. Is there a link to a good thread that details the pros and cons of the cube variants (skewbs, fisher, mods etc). I want to start a collection of the best cubes, and have bought...6 or 7, but there's SOOOO many cool ones, I'm sure I'm missing out on some! Thanks!

About how many solves does it take to break in a v5?
What lube works best on it? Or rather, is there anything you recommend over D39? It should be fine but just curious
I want do be sub 2 on the 5x5. Which part should i practice on? Times:
Centers: 40s (with inspection)
Edges: 1:05s (without inspection)
3x3: 30s (without inspection)
