Is this a thread where I get to ask a question?

What makes an alg a "2-gen?" I've heard this term and I don't understand.

An algorithm is a 2-gen if you only have to turn two faces throughout the algorithm. BTW anyone know a really fast J-perm? Since they come up a lot and I use them within some of my other PLL's I think I need a really fast one. Please, give me all you guys can. I use
(R' U L' U2 R U' R' U2 R L U') and (L U' R U2 L' U L U2 R' L' U).

Ja: Same as yours

How long does it take to get decent at slice turns? Mainly referring to M and M' here, I've just started using algs that include them and i do them so slowly, and by the end of Edge Permutation my fingertips are sore. Could be from having big hands, but i dont think that's unusual here.

I only started learning PLL maybe two weeks ago and my M turns are pretty solid now. Mostly with my right hand but my left is still decent. I recommend you just drill your H-Perm and Z-Perm for maybe half an hour while watching tv or something and it'll feel fine.

That's good to know. I actually use my left hand for M' and right hand for M, asymmetrical grip will probably slow me down in the long run.

When are inverse and mirror algorithms used? Also, if I use F2L, 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL, how fast roughly can I get my solve before I start learning full OLL and PLL? THanks

When you run into a case from a different angle.

You can get sub 20, but sub 30 would be a good goal before learning full PLL. At around 20 seconds average, learn full OLL.

Thanks for the info, I've learnt the two look OLL and PLL algorithms and am halfway through learning the f2l ones, could you please suggest a scenario where an inverse or mirror algorithm would be used, thanks.

You know how you do a U permutation with the 3 block in the back? Well, if you ended up with the 3 block in front, you'd have to auf, or do a y2 rotation. Instead you could use the mirror, and fix the u perm from where you are.

That's not a mirror...
