I usually make mistakes with this type of thing, but I think it's:
EP: 8*7*6*5
EO: 2^4
CP: 8*7*6*5
CO: 3^4
8*7*6*5 * 8*7*6*5 * (2^4) * (3^4) = 3657830400
So about 1 in 3.7 billion.
(can someone please correct me if I'm wrong?)

He'd already done a 2x2x3 though, so that does increase the chances quite a lot:
EP*CP*EO*CO:
(6*5*4)*(6*5)*(2^3)*(3^2) = 1/259200 chance of an F2L-skip after an XX-cross.

I'm having trouble finishing the last layer on my 4x4 fisher cube, i have everything right except 2 corners need to be switched and i have no idea how to switch them,
can anyone help me with this ?
Reorienting the cube really doesn't affect your times anyway, so no particular orientation is faster. It doesn't matter what orientation you choose, as long as you become very familiar with the one you choose and don't switch orientations. I chose white on top, green on front because I'm used to white being on top (I solve white cross on top) and I think it's logical for blue to be in the back, red on the right, and orange on the left.
