This is useless to me because cyoubx is sub 10 with lookahead. I am not sub 20 with look ahead so how I can I do it without lookahead?
Where is the cheapest place to buy a stackmat pro timer?

Help with a PLL case I don't understand?

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to cubing (~1 month) and I'm working on my 1 look PLL's (I know most except G perms), but I came across a case I don't understand. I can't match it to any case I've seen. I've solved F2L and OLL, but I need to move the pieces like this to solve it... (I realize that kind of edge permutation doesn't really happen, and I'd probably be something like a 3 edge cycle, but none of the edges are oriented to their adjacent edges or the center pieces)

I'm pretty sure I'm just missing something and it's one of the other cases, but I've been looking at it for a while and am having trouble figuring it out. I can solve it with 2 look PLL, but that'd be something like x R' U 'R D2 R U' R' D2 R2 twice and then a U perm. Seems really inefficient.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Picking up the slack... :P
Do I have to do 3BLD in a Guildford Challenge?
Nope. :)
Is there a Cube Explorer equivalent that's compatible with Mac?
I've not used it myself, but there is a ported version of ksolve for Mac. It's not as immediately accessible as CE, but it's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to use it, it's great^^
Can someone explain what's the difference between yau and yau5? Thanks
The solving of the last 8 edges is in general different. Whereas for yau you might do 3-2-3, for yau5 i think the general tactic is - solve 4 edges using freeslice, usually including 2 f2l edges, and then solve 2 CE pairs in the back. Then solve the remaining using 2 pairing or similar :) so you go into 3x3x3 stage having already built a double x-cross.
What's the average F2L/S2L/LL splits for someone wanting to average 2:20 on mega? Btw, I use EO/EP/CO/CP for LL and comms for CO/CP (R'DR and stuff) Should I learn specific algs for EP, CO, and CP or should I wait? I find that my LL takes me about 30-40 seconds, so it's pretty bad.
I don't know about splits, but if you know 2LOLL then i'd definitely learn CO, as you will know many of the algs already :) then you would solve EO/CO/EP/CP(using comms). if you currently use things like sune to solve EP then you would have to change your strategy, but the only EP algs i use are T perm, Y perm and an easy 7 move case :)

Many people have told you the answer on how to get sub 20. Practice.
Instead of spending time on this forum asking essentially the same question over and over, just spend that time and do 50 timed solves every day. If you can't, do 25. Keep doing these large averages every day and you will notice your times gradually drop. That's how I (almost) broke the 15 second barrier.

My own question: is there any reason why clicking on a thread from the front page does not always take me to the last page of the thread? It's kind of annoying.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum so, instead of creating a new thread for what might be:
a) something already discussed in multiple threads (I searched but perhaps I did not search right)
b) something a bit stupid and not worth a thread for
I will just start by a post in this 1 Q & 1 A thread. If people like it we can perhaps start a thread or you can point me to it if already existing.

I will start by saying that I'm NOT a believer in coincidences, luck, destiny, chance... so I tend to be very skeptical with anything that has no clear explanation. So, as this has happened to me A LOT I am willing to get an answer with a reasonable explanation for why. Okay, enough introduction, I go with the question:

Have you ever noticed the "new cube effect"?

I will explain: I buy a new cube, I start to use it and some very few solves into using it I do a very good time which later takes me ages to beat (at least with that same cube) until I am overall significantly better at cubing and then I can break that time again.

It happened to me when I bought a YJ Sulong, again when I bought my Shengshou Aurora, again with my MoYu HuangYing but today....!!!!

Today I got a YJ Chilong (supposedly an upgrade over the Sulong) and, after like 10-12 solves, I have a very fluent one and then I have a PLL skip. A bit nervous, I almost let the cube fall from my hands when pushing the space bar after a U2 to align the top layer and certainly lost around 3-4 tenths 'cos of this until I managed to stop the clock in 15.89. My current PB was 17.11 (done yesterday with my main, a Moyu Aolong v1).

This has happened to me so many times that I almost keep buying new cubes in search for my new PB :) I have like 12 already.

Anyone else has evidence of this happening to him/her? Does anyone have an explanation? (okay, two questions)

Thanks

Don't buy cubes for breaking PB's. I average 23 seconds which is 3 faster than you. I only have 2 3x3s

Yeah, thanks for the comment. It's not that I buy them JUST to break my PB. In fact since I got my current main (AoLong) I hadn't bought any new cubes for a while and I have been consistently beating my PB all the way down from 21.xx to 17.xx over time, some tenths of a second at a time.

But it is curious that every time I try a new cube I almost always make my best time with it on the 1st day and only much later I finally beat that again (but it can be like two or more weeks later). The fact that this time I took a whole second and a half (almost) off my PB on my 1st 10 solves with the ChiLong is just anecdotal and it won't necessarily convert it in my new main. Just wondering if there is some scientific reason behind this fact.

I also buy cubes because:
1) they are dirt cheap, compared with other things, at 4 to 10 $ each
2) I have a collector inside of me
3) I like the sensation of waiting for the new cube to arrive in the mail

I also cannot help but notice that you are faster than me and your signature says OLL 7/57 (that's 2-look OLL and nothing else) and PLL 9/21. I'm like OLL 50/54, PLL 21/21 even if I hate one of my PLL algs and would like to change it. :)
