Help the N00b?
Okay, so I'm new to this. Let me tell you real quick how I got here:
Basically, I picked up my cube again (a generic, loose-as-hell, pop-riffic jobbie I got almost thirty years ago) after a long absence because my GF's son got one for Christmas and I wanted to reteach myself. In so doing I finally found a walkthrough for my hopelessly-scrambled Revenge, and in a supreme bout of irony, one of the middles from said Revenge broke not five minutes after I got it solved.
So, yeah, n00b. But I'm having fun.
So I've been surfing and reading and now I want to get a couple of new cubes that are more designed for performance than the ones I have: a 3x3x3 to replace this thing, and a 4x4x4 to replace the now-dead Revenge.
I would like:
- Fast (easy to turn), so I can teach myself the finger-flick turns I've been seeing in the videos
- Forgiving for someone who hasn't gotten their precision down quite yet (don't know if this means less lock-prone, less pop-prone, or both)
- Decent corner-cutting, since that seems key for getting faster
- Available from a US seller ('cuz I don't want to wait a month for a shipment from China at this point)
- Fairly inexpensive ('cuz ultimately I'm dabbling here.)
Now, I'm probably asking for something that spits gold coins and farts rainbows, but I figure it's worth a shot. I've seen videos singing the praises of the Ghost Hand 2 which I can get in both 3x3x3 and 4x4x4 flavors from Cube Depot, and I'm leaning that way, but I'd appreciate the opinion of the hive mind here: would those fit the bill above, and if not, is there something better (but in the same price-range) that would?
Thanks for any help! I've been reading through forum threads (especially in this subforum) and it's been fascinating.
