I'd personally recommended the Dayan Guhong Pro+. You'll like the corner-core magnets a lot and it's only a few dollars more than the dual model of rs3m.

Ok, I put it on my list. But unless I'm mistaking the references (which is possible), the RS3M Magnetic Dual can be found in europe for 8-9 euros (for the magnet dual) when the Dayan Guhong Pro+ is only a few dollars more than the MagLev version ( 15 vs 18-19€ ?). Is maglev a must for casual cubing, (I'm aiming for sub 20 I think) or is the magnetic dual already a big improvement over my old guoguan ?

If your not intending to get sub 20 then don’t bother with maglev, but if at some point you wanna get faster I’d say buy the Dayan guhong

The GAN V100 is one of the best cubes right now, and i usually suggest it to everyone because it’s fast but somehow still controllable.

Yeah I was planning on getting it but it's out of stock on speedcubing.org, and I hate kewbz UK so not gonna get it right now, but hopefully in the future.

It’s also just 40 dollars but it’s pretty much comparable to a GAN 16.

I've heard that about it, and also that apparently it's just a downgraded version of it.

The Dayan Guhong Pro+ is basically just a Dayan Guhong Pro but with adjustable magnets.

That is why I want it so much, I love the v1, plus some more adjustment is something I need to have (not Gan 14 ahh stuff tho).

Can’t say much about the other cubes.

No worries, any replies are better then none.

Just get a cube that you like, whether it’s fast, slow, controllable, flexible, good or bad corner cutting, etc.

Defenitly get the V100 it's so much better than some of GAN's best cubes, such as the GAN 12. It's worth it and the price is crazy for the quality/performance

Hi.
I tried a little speedcubing about 10+ years ago, and want to re-do some a little. Like last time, it will probably only last a few weeks or months.

I still have my cubes (the only two I really used were $1 GuanLong's to carry in transports, and a stickerless Guoguan Yuexiao I paid $7 and lubed with love). This cubes are still good enough for me and in good condition, I don't *need* a new cube and am not heading to WR nor flagship price. On the other hand, I am curious on how cubes evolved since there started to be really good cheap alternatives to the original brand.

Is there any rather cheap I should really try ? Will the RS3M V5 Magnetic Dual (priced about the same as what I paid for the GuoGuan) make a big improvement / difference ? (I moded a GuanLong with magnets and liked it very much, thought it does not turn / corner as well as the guoguan of course). Any other I should really consider? Or is it really time to spend the $12 or $20 I did not spend last time? Or should I just relub my old cube and start solving ?

I also took a long break from cubing before coming back. You've already got the biggest improvement, namely magnets, but maybe not the full benefit. Aside from the accuracy boost, magnets also allow cubes to be designed to be lighter and faster without being uncontrollable. Corner-to-core magnets (ballcore) add even more stability, so you can get away with even faster setups. Maglev is not necessary for most people on most modern 3x3s, since it only adds speed (and a little bit of weight) without adding stability/control, and spring 3x3 cubes can already get quite fast.

Dual-adjustment is another feature I like a lot. It lets you separately control screw depth and spring/maglev compression. So you can adjust the screws (or the center travel setting---some cubes no longer have screws!) to get the amount of corner cutting you want, then adjust the spring compression to get the speed you want. As a returning cuber, you might want the spring compression to be pretty high to start, and lower it as you get used to the faster speeds.

So yeah, I'd also recommend the Guhong Pro Plus with springs in whichever size you prefer. 55mm is about the standard 3x3 cube size these days (which is a bit smaller than they used to be; I think your old cubes are 56mm?), but you can also go for 54mm or 56mm if you have small/big hands or a preference for smaller/larger cubes.

Maglev is just a preference thing. It makes the cube turn faster on average but it's main use is to combat spring noise. If you never had that issue or didn't care, then just get the spring version

You don’t need the 251 m pro if you’re looking for an upgrade to that. The old weipo wrs, qiyi m pro, mgc beta, and rs2m evo are all fine options. The Dayan tengyun is great for a little bit more money.

Gan 251 M Pro is the meta, but personally the Weipo WRS is my pick. MGC beta is supposedly good too, and the qiyi is also a nice option.

WEIPO WRS - Crunchy, smooth, on the smaller side, potential with modding to be the best 2x2 out there. - Get if you want a smaller 2x2 or more adjustment.

Qiyi M Pro - Clacky, Cheaper sounding/feeling, bigger then the wrs (quite noticeably imo), but is much smoother and requires less setup - Get if you dont like setting up cubes, want a bigger 2x2, or prefer buttery smooth to a more crunchy smooth.

I havent tried the MGC Beta yet.



Either the RS (either version) or the Dayan v2m.

RS - Ultra budget choice, good for people just starting out with skewb, but imo requires some form of setup to be good - good option if you just want a cube that will do the job for now.

Dayan v2m - Great ootb, much more customisation so if you dont like the feeling you can probably find a setting that suits you, smoother, and much easier to hold - Get if you want 1 skewb that will probably last your entire cubing career or if you really hate setting up cubes.

I prefer the Dayan, and if you pick that get the maglev uv one as there is no point imo in the spring version.



Anyway, Im looking at getting a new 3x3 due to my wrm v11 and dayan no longer existing. And my Meilong 3m is outdated now.
Im probably going to get the dayan pro plus (55mm maglev), but wanted to know if there are any others i should consider getting too.
And are there any other cubes, preferably WCA, that I should get ?

If you don't like the qiyi, you can always mod your weipo with it

Short feedback:

I bought an RSM3 V5 Dual, mainly because I found it on sale for 6.5€.
How does it compare to my old guanlong and was it worse spending money ?
- it is light, and the plastic feels definitively cheaper
- it turn like a charm, bothmagnet and dual adjustement are great evolution
- it is new, and my 10 year old cheap silicon grease had dried and was surpringly not easy to remove, the V5 does not really seems like it needs any lubrification

After 3-4 slow solves to tests the cube, i made 4 solves with an average 1:34* ( I averaged at maybe 1:50 or 2:00 with the sticky grease on the old guang long). More importantly: good feeling playing with the cube, enjoyable. Impressive how much cubes improved - I remember guang long being already impressive when it came out compared to 2 or 3 time more expensive rubik branded cubes. I'll need to clean and relub the guanlong to see how it really compare, but anyway I glad I spent the 6.5€ !

* : I think the difference is mainly because with the new cube I could find the sensation / muscle memory that I devleoped 10 years ago with the old one, and that the old grease on old cube did not allow. Still the new one feel definitively better than what I remember from the old one when it was new.
