Megamix... Thinking about an Mf8, I heard a lot of good feedback about them. But then, the big question is, tiles or sticker? I've never tried tiles on a cube, but since the layers are thinner on a megaminx, I was wondering if putting tiles instead of stickers would make it easier... I've never tried one, so I can't really say! Advices?

I've never had or felt a megaminx with tiles on it so I can't be completely sure but I think one with stickers would a lot better.

Tiles are usually thicker than stickers right? Since the pieces in the megaminx are already so small, the higher profile tiles would make it even small for you to hold and turn the pieces. Hence, i will go for the stickers unless you are not into speed-megaminxing.

Just my two cents with my experience from my QJ minx with uber thick tiles.

QJ tiles are absolutely huge. I would not recommend getting a QJ tiled. However, he was talking about Mf8. My Mf8 came with tiles (that's what I ordered) and inside the first day, 5 of the tiles fell off. I had to glue them back on, and although it wasn't hard, showed a lot about the quality of their work.

My turning style is fast and sloppy. I want a cube with amazing corner cutting, smoothness, crispiness, lightweight, no pops, no locks, and under 5 dollars. PLease help

Thanks for the quick responses! I'll try the gas-assisted cube and the LunHui.

I really dig the LunHui. Perfect balance (for me) between friction and smoothness. The gas-assisted has a great feel, and I appreciate the weight. But the center caps popped off so much that I had to glue them down. Of course, only then did I realize that the cube popped like crazy. With the caps glued, I can't tighten it!?! Back to the LunHui.....

Hi! New here and this is my very first post:)

I have to say I agree with the mf8 tiled megaminx - I just got one and the first time I mixed it up, one of the tiles fell off. Disappointing, since I'd heard so many great things about it.

And grommet, I'm so glad to hear somebody who likes the lunhui! It's my favorite but everyone online seems to favor the guhong and the zhanchi.

Hmm, I have so many questions to ask here! I'll start off with two:) And I'll preface by saying that I've read several of the pages on this post, but definitely not all 199, so forgive me if I repeat!

I'm a SLOW cuber right now, just now trying to learn something different from the beginner method. So having a really fast cube isn't one of my criteria. Like I said above, I love the feel of the lunhui (although mine is stickerless and it seems like alot of people think they may have a slightly different feel from a solid black or white cube) and I actually like my well-broken in storebought. I also have a lanlan 3x3 that I turned into a ruben-king, and I like the feel of it, even though it doesn't cut corners well. But then I like just about everything I've ever tried that was made by lanlan. I don't like my cube4you diy and I hate my cube4you tile cube. So that's just a few examples of my preferences and dislikes in a cube.

First, I'm noticing that I like a little bit bigger cube (3x3). My favorite cube is my stickerless lunhui. I have a guhong POM that I've not been crazy about, but I've recently re-lubed and tensioned and I'm liking it alot more now. But it seems like Dayan cubes are a bit smaller than average, and I think I'd be better with a larger cube. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good cube that is maybe a little larger than average, and also not terribly expensive?

(The guhong is a whole separate issue - it catches and locks all the time, I just don't understand because I've heard so many good things about them AND I've used another one that was not nearly so bad, so what's wrong with mine? Anyway, not one of the questions I wanted to ask here!)

My second question probably can't be answered yet, but I'll ask it anyway. I got all excited when I saw the guhong v2 was coming out, and decided to buy it and try it out. But I've seen so many good things about the zhanchi too, so now I'm trying to decide which I'd rather invest in. I'm thinking just for something different I may wait until they start selling the zhanchi stickerless with the purple side. Not because I like purple better than orange (definitely not!) but just for something different.

You don't have to replace them instantly. My 5x5 stickers lasted me about 5-6 months, they were peeling quite a bit though. For the Shengshou 4x4, I wouldn't really know because I just got one a few days ago. But the stickers are still good.

They're nice colours too. It's just the yellow on black cubes is VERY, VERY dull.

Hoped this helped :)

I personally own a YJ type D. Its a very good to cube to go to straight from the Rubiks brand. It has adjustable tension also if you're not please with it out of the box.

Thanks

Hey, iEnjoyCubing, did I tell you that I asked about a bunch of different cubes and you answered and I got every single one you suggested? And I love every. Single. One.

To answer your first question- some Dayans are smaller than normal (specifically, the Zhanchi, Lingyun, and maybe the Lunhui), but the Guhong should be the same size as a rubik's brand. Maybe you just think it's smaller?

Second question- I suggest the Guhong V2. The Zhanchi is smaller, and like you said, you don't like small cubes. Keep in mind that stickerless cubes aren't allowed in competitions.

As for your crappy Guhong you have, try breaking it in some more. Mine wasn't amazing out of the box, or even after I tensioned and lubed it, but after a few weeks of breaking in, it got a lot better.
