@rowlm: I average 35 now, and I got a ZhanChi when I was averaging 50 seconds. There is no point getting a slightly worse cube until you are sub 15 and then spending more money getting a ZhanChi. Get the ZhanChi and get some 50k wt Differential Oil from your local hobby store to lube it with. Don't waste the money going with Lubix, you can do a 48 point edge mod yourself (it's easy!)

I average about 15 seconds and want to get a new cube, my GuHong is getting old and it doesn`t respond well to lube anymore.
The most important things for my personal preferences are: Good cornercutting, good lock-up-resistance, and it should respond well to lube.

Rate please:
GuHong
LingYun
LunHui

I heard Zhanchi tends to lock up a lot?

Thank you in advance :)

I'm an amateur cuber, looking for my first real speedcube. on the OAQT thread, two people recommended the DaYan Guhong and the ZhanChi, but they are a little costly for me. I want a good cube somewhere around $10...are the ones less than that good? what would you recommend among those?

Are the two versions of the lingyun the only dayan made cubes the same size as an alpha-v?

No, the LunHui is also the same size as the LingYun (and also has the same kind of clicky edge pieces).

The good cheaper cubes are the ShengEn F2, and the Alpha V. They're not quite as good as the Dayan cubes, but they're still really good (and until about a year ago were considered the top cubes).

My zhanchi never locks up on me it's all about tensions all the tensions have to be equal if that is the case then your cube shouldn't really lock up on you unless your flogging it to death lol!

My guhong was less than 10 bucks....? Which websites did you check out? Pickegg.com has Guhongs for about 10 dollars and free shipping. I just ordered from there and it came really fast.
Also just look at random reviews on youtube and try to see which cubes you might like and if you can't get a Dayan cube, most people will point you to the F2 and maybe Alpha V.

You can get GuHongs for just under $11 with free shipping here: http://www.pickegg.com/wholesale/3x3x3-dayan-guhong-magic-cube-puzzle-game-toy-with-black-edge.html
However, you could also get an Alpha V for about $8...(an A V-f for about $5).

"Just so you know nether the guhong nor the zhanchi will respond to spray lube there both best lubed with lubix or a wet silicone lube"

Hang on slightly confused, will silicone lubricants work well with a cube like the zhanchi or it it only stuff like lubix that should be used on this cube. You also mentioned a wet silicone is better so will a lube like "Draper Silicone Lubricant" be better than the dry silicone that I suggested. The reason why I am suggesting the brands of silicone I am is because they are from UK therefore would be easy for me to get hold of. I would just follow your advice on the lubix but am put off by the cost.

If Lubix is too pricey, you can buy 50k wt. Differential Oil. It got the same abilities as lubix, and it's much cheaper. I believe there are some websites selling that located in the UK.

whats the thought of torpedoes now? is it better to use them or should i take them out? i get different answers from youtube vids and such.

in the lunhui? zhanchi?

Easy solution, take them out... if you find yourself popping more than you'd like put them in. I took them out cause I rarely pop and I prefer my cubes as light as possible. Others like to have their cubes super loose, which you can't achieve normally without the torpedos.

that was a good link :) I'd like to ask a last time, do the stickers have plastic film, and does it wear off slowly? Both the old Rubik's (TM) cubes I bought, the sticky plastic came off quite easily, and the stickers faded. the cube in front of me now has orange and yellow stickers that are barely different from each other. :|
