The outer layers of the CB are super fast, faster than their 4x4, almost as fast as my zhanchi, and I didn't lube my 5x5. And they are very smoth too. The inner layers are a bit slower, you can feel the grinding, but it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe some lube could fix the inner layers, but I am not a serious speedsolver, to me it's fine without lube.
Thanks, compare to huachuang?

Thanks but I don't have a weisu to spare. Really just want a really fast cube out of the box. Recommendations?

it's not normal weisu springs, they are weisu SOFT springs that have to be purchased from thecubicle.us

I'm practicing with an old ShengShou 5x5, wondering if I should get something new. Haven't been paying attention to hardware in the last year either.
What are the top four 5x5's currently available?

I personally don't think it necessary. If you do some modding, the SS is still as good as any modern one. The only one that may be worth getting is the yuxin as it's great and relatively cheap as well.

What speedcube for a sub-50?

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to get a speedcube (right now I'm using a normal lubricated Rubik's branded non-speedcube). What cube would be right for me? The Moyu ones look promising (especially Moyu Aolong v2 and Weilong v2) but is there one that would be suited more to sub-50? Also, I plan on using the cube for a long time, so would an Aolong or Weilong be good? Thx;)

i'm planning to get a puzzle for each WCA event except for clock, 6x6, and 7x7, are these good choices?

moyu aosu

moyu pyraminx

moyu skewb

dayan megaminx w/ ridges

feiwu/weilong v2/meiying/hualong (really unsure here)

Almost any speedcube can last you a long time if properly taken care of. It depends on whether you plan on just buying one speedcube and that's it or if you think you might buy at least 3 or 4 different ones and see what you like better. Because all the new cubes are great but you will like ones better than others and your choice will be different to mine or to other cuber's choice.

If you just want one cube then I'd recommend to get one of the more premium cubes out there, with good quality plastic, as it will last you longer and it can serve you well until you are beyond sub-10 if you can reach that goal. In that case I would recommend an Aolong v2, Tanglong, Meiying or Hualong (there are more, these just came to mind first). Or the new Aolong GT, of course. Any of these will cost you between $11 and $16 depending on the store.

If you think that you'll end up buying several cubes I'd recommend starting with some cheaper / older ones. They will be almost equally great and capable of sub-10 but maybe corner cutting is not as good as with the other ones or plastic will be a bit less durable. For example, I used a YJ Chilong as my main for more than a year and it is still in great condition and it is still a great cube that gets me as good times as my current main. It even makes me be more careful and accurate when turning as its reverse corner cutting is not as good as with other newer cubes but that's what makes me come to it from time to time as well. Other recommendations would be the Thunderclap (cheap and maybe as good as the Along v2 but corner twists a bit) or the YJ Sulong (also a bit old and can be found dirt cheap). Also the Shengshou Aurora is a nice and buttery smooth cube but it is a bit sensitive to proper lubing and tensioning so I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're doing. You can find any of these for as low as $4.

If you want good out of the box, then those are some of the best from what I've heard although you may be able to get better with other cubes if you're prepared to do some modding

Thanks for the suggestions! Do you happen to know the traditional Mandarin names of these cubes? Also, how do you distinguish between the Aolong v2 Batch 1 & 2? Right now I'm between the Thunderclap and Aolong v2.
Thanks.

Thanks.

If you order an aolong v2 from a cubing website(not ebay) it will be the newer batches. The first batch has long since sold out.

Hello. I previously had a Yu Xin 3x3 (the original kind), but I accidentally broke it. I am looking for a new cube. I have tried my brother's Gans 356. It has OK speed, but for me it is way too flimsy and locks a lot. I'm looking towards the MeiYing, AoLong GT, HuaLong, and the TangLong, but I am open to any suggestions. I am looking for a fast cube that doesn't really lock too much. I average just about 20 seconds. What cube should I get? Thanks for your help.

The QiYi Thunderclap is fast and stable and it has very good corner cutting. It also has a good, solid feel with nice plastic. The HuaLong is good but it's a bit flimsy feeling and flexes a bit much like the Gans 356. I can't comment on the other cubes. At $9, it's definitely worth a try. It doesn't feel like a cheap cube at all.

In my opinion, Meying is the best cube ever. Fast, stable, does not corner twist and does not have problems with lock ups.

Need recommendations!

I'm not a speedcuber, so I'm not really worried about super quick cubes, but I do like a little corner-cut and a smooth rotation out of the box.
I bought a 5x5 ShengShou a long time ago and broke it recently and need ideas on cheap but durable cubes. Durable is number one priority, but
out of box smoothness is also great! Any and all ideas are appreciated!

If you are asking for a 5x5
The Yuxin 5x5 is the best at its price of somewhere around 17 dollars in thecubicle.us
