Hi,

I am looking for a cube for casual use in the subway : I don't aim at sub 10s (nor even 20s) with it, but I want it to feel really good. To me this means :

-Turns (fast and) smooth
-Do not pop (too often)
-Possibly nice sound (not too loud)
-Have black borders around the colours - I just hate those all solid colors cubes
-Do not have stickers that wear with time and are approximatively aligned

The only cube I found that seems to match "out of the box" is the rubik's speed cube - pro pack.
-Nice black borders AND plastic colours
-Rather smooth without sanding once you replaced the springs, added washers, and lubrified. (but I still consider "out of the box' because everything is included)

It costs 20€ and just comes with enough lub for first time, but it might be an option.

Since I'm not afraid of modding, another possiblity would be to get a cheap YJ (or even a aolong V2), and paint it. With 6 colours, pencil, stencil, total cost would be high for the first cube (40-46€ depending on the cube), but I can choose the exact (mat <3) colours I want.

So, the questions :

-Is there any good cube which is black with solid coloured plastic inserts like the Speed Cube ?
-Which cube would you recommend for me for repainting (to have a perfect feeling, not to try to establishing new records) ?

Thanks you,
C.

If you want a cube that feels nice the Gans 356 or 357 is often commenyed on as such though most modern speed cubes have a very nice feel with corner cutting.

does anyone know a cube that is similar to a zhanchi but slightly heavier(weight) and doesnt pop and has a slightly heavier turning that still maintains the quick and fast speed of the zhanchi? i wanna get a new OH cube cos im quite interested in it now. It also doesnt have to be mini or anything, it can be 57 mm.

I would recommend the original Yu Xin 3x3. It's cheap at only $9, and it's smooth and fast.

i think the moyu tanglong fits your specification: it turns smooth, doesnt pop, is quiet, the stickers do not chip or peel and they are fitted to the pieces.

you could get it stock (will need lubing, tensioning etc): http://thecubicle.us/moyu-tanglong-p-5100.html

or if you dont like the sticker shades and want your own shades you can get cubicle premium version (this comes pre lubed and tensioned): http://thecubicle.us/cubicle-tanglong-p-5270.html

and nowadays there aren't cubes with tiles (coloured plastic inserts) as the stickers have been improved! so there is no need to paint!

From the pictues I've seen, the sides of cubes seems to be completely flat. The only cube I've found with grooves for the stickers is the Jieyun which is my current solution.

There are at least the Rubik's Cube V2 ans Speed Cube :) I will often travel with my next cube, have it in pocket, use it when walking to work and it's sometime rainy (I will replace screws and springs with A4 inox), I would not do this with my Aolong V2, even with higher quality stickers !

I wouldn't knock it until you've tried it. Note that the jeiyun is not a quiet cube. and please for the love of god don't get a rubiks brand! the performance is nothing compared to any modern day speed cube. I would seriously consider the tanglong (it has the same stickers as your aolong v2 but more fitted to the pieces).

I need a nice 2x2 since the shengshou 2x2 that I have pops (explodes) every second solve.
I like fast but still controllable cubes which rarely pop. I have the dayan and the tangpo on my mind and I need help choosing between those two or maybe recommend other 2x2's. Thanks!

The dayan is the best if you adjust it correctly. On loose tensions it can pop a lot, but with right tensions is fast, controllable and very smoth. It's a bit expensive too.

Don't get the TangPo (unless you wanna get it in one of those fancy colours), it's pretty much identical in mechanism to the YJ YuPo, which is around half the price. I have both, and the TangPo isn't exactly any better than the YuPo.

So yeah, either DaYan or YJ YuPo, whichever you fancy. (If it helps you decide, the YuPo is my current main, and the DaYan is my former main. Although it seems like the majority of people still prefer the DaYan.)

i'm planning to get a puzzle for each WCA event except for clock, 6x6, and 7x7, are these good choices?

moyu aosu

moyu pyraminx

moyu skewb

dayan megaminx w/ ridges

feiwu/weilong v2/meiying/hualong (really unsure here)

For a cheap 3x3 i would go either with the thunderclap or the yuxin. They are both great cubes in my opinion.

I need help choosing a 3x3 main. I like fast and light cubes! Please help! I am thinking of a Moyu Hualong, Congs Design Meying, and the Qiyi Thunderclap.

for the hualong, it gets a bit heavier after lubing and breaking in
