Can you tell me some good cubes but cheaper than FII, AV, GH to make a siamese cube? I'm going to order them in Lightake.
Thanks!

Hello all,
Long time reader first time poster :)

I am near posting my order for speed cubes since I only have a Rubik's brand and even that is terrible. It came in a fancy box but the tension is unadjustable which makes it very stiff even after silicone oil.

Anyway, I am looking forward to choose my cubes for further cubing. I have had these three in mind : A-V,F-II and the GuHong. Due to financial reasons I only want two cubes at this time and after watching several video reviews I have chosen the A-V and the F-II.

However, I would like to have a white cube since all my cubes are black (I like black the most). I would like to have the F-II as white since I expect my A-V to be my main being black as I like it and have an F-II as white for some change.

Ok, too much talk, I have two questions:
-Is there a difference in quality between black and white cubes? (like different kinds of plastic like at V-Cubes)
-Is there a difference in quality between DIYs and already boxed F-II's? (I mean why is 3x3x3 SE DIY Magic Cube 2n Gen White more than 3 dollars cheaper than the 3x3x3 SE Magic Intelligence Test Cube White (Gen 2nd)

Are they even the same? (I don't mind assembling my cubes at all, love doing it :) )

ON-TOPIC:

-There is absolutely NO difference at all in different plastic colors. It's just that before Alpha becomes the pioneer of producing high-quality speedcubes, black plastics are generally recycled low quality plastics in China, because the color makes it hard to tell whether it's inpure or not, in comparison to white, which shows everything. But nowadays, with all these competitions between puzzle manufacterors, it's hard to find a renowned speedcube brand to use inpure plastic materials.

-The only difference between pre-assembled cube and DIY parts is that one is assembled and one is not :). But in THIS particular case, the non-assembled cube in your link is NOT an FII. See here.

hope it helps.:)

I have always had a problem with lockups. The last time I cleaned and lubed my current cube, my times dropped from low 13s to low 12s. Unfortunately, it's still a Rubik's brand from the local Walmart (don't judge me), so it still sucks--it just feels less stiff and locks up a little less often. Any suggestions?

Ok after talking to my FII, I think I'll buy an Alpha V (yay!). My question is, which is better; the DIY A V kit or preassembled? I've never assembled a DIY cube before.

I also heard the A V is great when it's modded to make it like a Haiyan Memory Cube, so I think I want to mod it. I heard people shave the plastic with an exacto knife. I do want to try the A V as it comes, before I mod it however.

Please advise. Thanks.

After talking to your F-II? Did you get into an argument with it and decided to cheat on it with an A-V or something?

Get it assembled, this way, you can try it, and then mod it.

Does the guhong respond to anything apart from Maru lube?

Which 4x4 is good. I need something like the F-II or guhong *coughwtfcough*

I had a mini QJ but the way I use it, it broke real bad. That's why, I'm a little apprehensive about buying it. I'll be buying from lightake.

also,
1. Megaminx
2. Pyraminx
3. 2x2

which ones?

I have a lanlan 2x2. A friend needs one so I wanted to know if there's anything better. I'll be teaching him how to cube soon. He was kinda facinated by the 2x2 and wants one :3

GuHong responds to silicone fine. I compared silicone with Maru lube on it, and with Maru lube it's faster, but with silicone it's really good too.

For 4x4, I recommend Maru, but I guess since Lightake doesn't have those anymore, you could get a LanLan. Those are pretty good.

Megaminx, get MF8 type II, for Pyraminx, get QJ, and for 2x2, get either the LanLan, or Ghost Hand/Sheng Shou. Those are the best imo, but the DianSheng and Maru are pretty good too.

I know this has been asked a bit too many times, but how would the Gu Hong compare to the F-II?

Are the other lubes-in-tiny-eye-drop-like-bottle things on lightake the same as maru lube?

Which mirror/bump cube on lightake would be cool?

I couldn't find the MF8 - II Megaminx :(

I'll ask my friend which 2x2 he wants.

I wanna get a 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 that are as loose as possible from the get-go (as in loose enough to turn U or u with only an index finger) with just assembly, lubing and breaking them in (no mods). What should I get?

The only suggestions I found in the thread are Maru or Lanlan for 4x4x4, couldn't find anything for 5x5x5. I've heard people say that V-Cubes are pretty loose after doing mods, but like I said, I'd prefer not to do that, as I am both lazy and lacking in tools.

V-cube 5, you just need to break in, you don't need to mod it. You could mod it if you wanted to get rid of the clicking, but that's all.

To my knowledge, there aren't really any 5x5's that are good right out of the box. Just get a V-cube, it doesn't take that long to break in.
