Ive got a non pillowed 4x4 and its just doesnt feel good in my hands.
Maybe a mini 4x4x4?

It would help to know which cube you're actually using. But in my opinion, 4x4 begins and ends with the SS. If it doesn't "feel good" in your hands then there really isn't a lot that can be done. The SS is already on the smaller side for a 4x4. There is a mini type c, but it's tiny. Smaller than most 2x2s.

Fangcun. Smoother or Crispier than a Zhanchi?

I've been trying to find a Zhanchi(original plastic) so I can mod it and make a new main( currently mine is to crunchy for my liking). Ive heard from some reviews that the fangcun uses a softer plastic(ABS) rather than a mix of ABS and PVC(current Zhanchi plastic). I was wondering if this is true before I buy one. Also, is it quieter? Thanks in advance.

Its a SS v4 that i got!

I bought a 4x4x4 from amazon in a package deal a little while back and I cant tell what version SS it is. Any suggestions on how to tell and once I find that out, which (if any) would you recommend that I do the consta or florian mod on? just curious. Sorry if this topic has been brought up already, but 420 pages is too much to read through for me. Thanks for any help.

Pull out a center. If it has a pin on it, v3, if not, v4.

It could also be a v5.

(To the original poster of the question) I don't think there's a single source/video that compares all 5 versions of the SS 4x4 so maybe just search around youtube and look at videos that show you the mechanism and see which one is closest to the one you have?

It's most likely going to be a v5. They no longer make the previous versions, so unless the seller has had them sitting around for a year, it will be a v5. Look at a center piece. Look at the side opposite the side with the sticker, and see if it has a huge round bump on the main, flat part. If it does, its a v5.

You don't need to mod an original ZC. They are incredible with no modding. The FangCun does not feel like the original ZC. Whoever was talking about the mix of plastic they use didn't know what they were talking about. The mix of plastic in the Dayan cubes is ABS/PC, not ABS/PVC. However, these are only the Gu Hong and Zhan Chi. The others still use the same old ABS that was originally used for the ZC (not including the GH v2 or LY v2). In fact, the FangCun doesn't feel like a ZC at all. It has these two small notches on the sides of the edges, which make it kind of lock into place with each turn. It has a unique feel. It is quieter, but explodes like crazy, even on tight tensions, and has center cap popping problems. Also, for future reference, you're better off not bringing up original plastic ZC's on this site. A lot of people will just hassle you about it because they don't believe they exist. Just try to talk to someone that knows about them. I have 3 of them, and there isn't only 1 kind of original, but at least 2 different kinds. The very first one I bought is much better and cheaper feeling than the other 2, which seem to be an upgrade, using sturdier plastic, but still not quite as sturdy as the newer ones. They seem to get worse and worse the more they changed them. I doubt you'd be able to find one of the older ones. Most people seem to have the second one, which was still made within the first month of release.

Is the 54.6 fangshi shuangren white with black caps worth it if your 55mm zhanchi is super slow and you can't figure out how to make it fast?

Basically I lubed with 50k traxxas and tensioned my 55mm zhanchi to maximum corner cutting and it was slower than my rubik's brand so I decided to clean it out and retension but still no change. Then I cleaned the pieces and used maru and all it did was make the cube smoother/quieter but the speed still didn't change. Now it's 1/2 a turn looser than maximum corner cutting and it's slightly faster but still a lot slower than my guhong v1.
My OH mains progression: 57mm zhanchi until around 40-45 sec, modded guhong v1 until 20 sec, 55mm zhanchi (no improvement at all, actually went up 6 seconds with it at comps)

55mm Zhanchi was my main until I got my Fangshi ShuangRen. I used the 55mm Zhanchi at my last (and only) comp. I also have 50mm Zhanchi. All my mini Zhanchis feel slower to me than the normal sized Zhanchi although 55mm is much smoother than 57mm. I also made it looser than max corner cutting and it was a little faster but still a bit slower for some reason. Unfortunately, I don't have a 54.6mm SR but if you do get one I'd like to know how it compares to the 55mm Zhanchi.

Guhong V2 vs Zhanchi ?

any opinions ?
I already have a dayan zhanchi but it pop-ups A LOT. Will the guhong v2 pop-up aswell ?

I need some advice and opinions before ordering one of those .
Thanks.
