I would agree with Maccoboy that the better brands are reasonably priced anyway. From personal experience buying cheap or unknown cubes before I knew better: every one I ever bought has had to be replaced

Ok, lately I have been getting a little board with my 3x3, but then I tried out roux (which I consider the method of the awesome) but I decided to get a 2x2 or a 4x4 which would you suggest? I hear the vcube 2x2 is a great smooth cube (the cubic one) an the shengshou is the best 4x4, is this true? Are there others I should look at? I am leaning to the 2x2 since I hear all 4x4's need to be modded for them to be any good.

Also, I am looking for a cube with no lock-ups. I hear the lanlan 4x4 are good?

4x4: Shengshou
2x2: Wittwo v1 or Dayan

The lanlan sucks. I have one. It may not lock up to bad but can't cut corners at all.

Hi, Im Dylan.

I'm looking for a good, controllable cube that can cut corners by atleast 3/4 a cubie. I have a Dayan Zhanchi but it is so fast that it often gets out of control and results in lockups. I heard the Guhong v2 is very controllable, but I would like to hear some other peoples opinions. I am also sub 30.

Hi Dylan - I have a guhong v2, as will as a zhanchi.

I'd say the guhong is definitely more controllable, my f2l it's faster, but my LL really suffers with the guhong... The zhanchi is faster and less controllable... It's a matter of personal preference, my times are similar with both.

Maybe tightening your zhanchi, or using a heavier/more viscous lube would help? I found mine hard to control at first, as I was used to the guhong, but I've worked on my turning accuracy and wouldn't go back now!

Hello all,

I just came back to speedcubing after a 8 month break. I have a Dayan zhanchi right now and I just feel like getting a second cube. I like smooth cubes. What should I get? I saw a new Dayan, I think it's the panchi. Or maybe a guhong v2? Or do you think I'm good with this zhanchi?

FYI, I'm not that great at speedcubing,
PB=around 30 if i remember correctly
Old average :around 45s
new average :around 60s LOL

Yeah, that's true, I hear that it is really good after breaking in and heavy useage. I'm just pointing out that the Guhong is generally accepted as a great cube, even right out of the box. Panshi is extremely controversial, sort of like the Lingyun v2.

Ah, thank you. I didn't see your post until now, or I would've replied sooner. I am now considering a guhong, guhong v2 or a lunhui. I hear that the lunhui is very good & controllable but it is also small. Thank you for your advice, I will look more into those cubes. :D

I would just get a Zhanchi 55mm :) its so different to the 57mm, and so much better imo. Its not only the size difference, its so much better!

Compared to the guhong v2 its faster, smoother and doesnt lock up as much

I'm looking for a cube that won't pop. I'm not too worried about speed, but I do want control and at least a little corner cutting (hopefully reverse also). From what I've read, ZhanChi or maybe F-2 seems like what I want. I've seen reviews that say the GuHong is unpoppable and some that say it pops a lot, so I'm not sure which to believe. Can anyone offer some insight?

There's both version 1 and version 2 or the Guhong. V2 has an improved design (torpedos, which the Zhanchi also has) that makes popping difficult. But since you don't care about speed you could just tighten the cube's screws.

If you're not in a hurry to buy, initial reviews of the Fangshi ShuangRen indicate that it's a very good cube and very difficult to pop.
