I was wondering if the Alpha V a good OH cube, I've been looking for a good OH cube fr a while now..

Thanks in advance.

When I talked to Phil Yu at the Cornell comp last year he said they were trash for OH so i bought a OH cube from him and the two don't even compare. If you're going to buy a cube specifically for OH check out Phil's store, thecubicle.us. He has a OH cube he mods himself for sale here and if he's selling it in his store I'm sure it's better than a crappy reject OH cube he sold away at a comp.

Shengshou v3
Dayan+mf8
X-Cube

People recommend the Shengshou because it's good and cheap, but I think it's much to small. That being said, I have big hands for being 13. Dayan+mf8 is also good from what I've heard but it's more expensive the the SS. I haven't heard much about the X-Cube recently but I recall people saying it was amazing, except it was WAY too expensive.

Good 4x4?

To elaborate on the above post:

-Shengshou v3 is the best route if you are looking to get a good, cheap 4x4. The small size is nice because it makes the cube easier to hold/turn. However, it is slightly locky and doesn't cut corners that well (half a piece). That being said however, it still turns very fast and never pops. Plus, it is amazing out of the box, you don't have to do anything to it to make it good. It is my main 4x4 (over the Dayan AND X-Cube).

-The Dayan+mf8 4x4 is the best route to take if you do not pop cubes very often (you aren't a rough turner). It turns well, doesn't lock up, and cuts corners better than the SS v3, however, like I said, it pops quite a bit and requires a fair amount of breaking in/tensioning out of the box. A word of warning though, do NOT get the mini version. The full size version is larger than most 4x4s, but in the long run is quite a bit better than the mini.

-The X-Cube 4, in my opinion, isn't worth how much money it costs. They run anywhere from $40-$50, and require inner-layer modding/quite a bit of breaking in to make them great. Once that is accomplished, however, it is an amazing 4x4. It cuts corners better than the Dayan/SS and doesn't pop. In addition, it doesn't lock up. Overall, if you are willing to spend the money/time to break it in and mod it, you will be happy. If not, then this cube isn't for you.

TL;DR - Get the SS v3. Cheapest and the best out of the box.

I see, sounds good. I'll probably go SS then.

Also as a side note, I asked in here a while ago about megaminxes and 3x3 and pyraminx and got all three that were recommended and I love them all. My Zhanchi, mf8 mega and QJ Pyra or all totally awesome.

Thanks guys.

Yeah. It's a great cube. Here's links: Black / White

Should I get another QJ timer or switch to Speedstacks (1st or 2nd generation, not going to consider pro timer yet)?
My QJ timer won't start/stop unless you press down really hard and I can't seem to find anything wrong with it when I took it apart. Where I'm ordering from, 2nd generation costs 2 times more than first and I don't think it comes with the chord thing.

I'd recommend Speedstacks, since QJs break pretty easily. You can always get them from Ebay if a new one is too expensive. Or, you could just use your computer with qqtimer or CCT and not have to buy anything.

I'm buying from chinese ebay so 1st gen is about 10 bucks, 2nd gen is about 20 bucks and the mat is about 2 bucks. Only reason I want a timer is so I can do magic solves without breaking my keyboard (again).

What are some good OH cubes, like a controllable cube, one the is able to glide and one that doesn't usually pop or lock.. ( I know the last two preferences are sometimes ineveitable but that's why I added " that doesn't usually" to it).

So thanks in advance :)

Im gunna get a 6x6 cube. Which brand should i get? I know there is v cube and shengshou, and maybe others. I know you have to mod the v cube for it to be good, but once you mod it is it better than a shengshou? Im a beginner at 6x6, so should i just get a shengshou? Thankyou

Once the v-cube is modded, most people think it's better than the Shengshou. However, it does take a LOT of modding and breaking in. If you're a beginner and just want a 6x6 to do a few casual solves on, go with the Shengshou.

I've heard the One Hand Zhanchi is quite good for one handed solves. Or, if you don't want to pay the extra money for all the mods done to it, you can just buy a normal zhanchi or a normal lingyun (I recommend those two instead of a guhong because they're slightly smaller than normal cubes and generally better for OH solves, but a guhong might work as well if you have bigger hands).

Oh okay then... Well I've been using a Guhong for 2H as well as OH since that's my only "good" cube...

So is the Lingyun actually controllable because I've only heard that it is quite fast, crispy and "bumpy" like the Alpha cubes. (Sorry if my description of the cube is wrong.)

So then would an Alpha cube (i.e AV) suffice since they're quite cheaper compared to Dayan..

Could someone find a good mini alpha for OH from taobao for less than 40 yuan? My chinese fails and my head is starting to hurt because it takes forever to read. I just spent a couple hours trying to find 5 cubes and this is the only one left.
