My Moyu GTS3LM is coming in tomorrow. I was trying to see if I could main another moyu cube besides the WR M. Don't get me wrong it's a great cube, but I was just thinking of trying something else. Any thought's? Do the ridges help or hurt? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

A GTS3M LM is just a WRM with ridges, which is just a GTS3M with weak magnets and no ridges lol. I own and main a GTS3M, and personally I don't even notice the ridges. They aren't a positive, but they also aren't a negative. The ridges are kinda just...there

Do they aid in M slices or S slices. Or are they like you said just there.. lol

There's completely no difference imo. I've tried the WRM, and they don't really change anything when it comes to slices(although that kinda makes sense cause they're on the outside anyway). And as far as preventing slipping your hands off the cube, it's really rare anyway so the ridges again don't really change anything. Basically this is the story of ridges:

Moyu: "Let's put ridges!"
Cubers before trying: "WTH ARE U CRAZY THIS CUBE SUX"
Cubers after trying: "Oh. This is basically the same as a normal cube. Whatever I guess"
Moyu: "OK FINE WELL REMOVE RIDGES"
Cubers before trying: "Um, we didn't really have an opinion on the ridges anyway, so whatever I guess"
Cubers after trying: "Yeah this is literally the same cube except the LM version with slightly different ascetics"
Moyu: "OK FINE WELL JUST MAKE A WRM WITH RIDGES"
Cubers: "Holy crap we don't even want these just make a GTS4 already"

That is absolutely brilliant! haha I'm still laughing. Yeah, I pretty much want a GTS4 or whatever comes out! It seems like it's been too long. lol

Thanks lol. Someone posted a DM conversation with Moyu on the upcoming puzzles thread that hinted at a new GTS, so I'm ready for that.

Oh, one more thing: The GTS3 probably isn't amazing for OH. I just started doing OH and noticed that the ridges do kind of effect my turning. That being said, I've never really done OH before and I have relatively small hands

Yeah me too, I actually use a Guhong V3 M with Speedcubeshops polymer coating for grip. I suck at one handed but I find it’s better than the Gan 354m v2

What 3x3 should I get if I'm a slightly rougher turner? I like a cube that has somewhat tight springs (or springs that can be adjusted that way, so I can loosen the actual cube and it will corner cut and still be stable. I don't care much about the price of the cube, because I'm likely not going to get one for a month or two.

I just did my first time 5x5 solve on my only 5x5. I know your not supposed to get the best cube as a beginner, but that time could probably be cut in half if I didn't do that solve on a shengshou mini. Good beginner 5x5s?

Edit preferably under 20 dollars, and I like crisp cubes, like the valk 3.

YJ MGC 5x5 is your best bet, and it’s also my main.

I want to try out some newer & nicer 3x3 cubes to get a feel for the differences in manufactures and modern cube styles. The only magnetic cubes i have ever used are the Yuxin kylin V2M & my cubicle custom Yuxin little magic M. I've also done a lot of solves on the non magnetic little magic and the Moyu MF3RS. Given the info below which cubes do you think will agree with my current preferences and also which cubes will give me a change in feel from the little magic M? I'll most likely get 2 or 3 from the list below.

Some details to consider:
  • both my little magic and little magic m are an absolute pleasure to solve with, they are light, smooth,so easy to turn and it just feels "right"
  • the magnets in my little magic m to me feel strong. I love that i can flick it and the layers are just perfectly in line...however, some times i turn too aggressively and the cube feels like it wants to turn in all directions at once (unstable?)
  • my MF3RS is noticeably heavier to me than my little magic. I much prefer the little magic to the MF3RS (both non magnetic)
  • customization sounds tedious and i don't have the desire to tinker with that much. I understand how that makes the cube more suitable for a variety of solvers or even to me as i progress
  • i must have a sloppy and aggressive turning style, I'm actively working on toning that down
  • I average ~30sec
  • lets say price isn't an issue, i just want to focus on feel
I am considering the following cubes:
  • Dayan TengYun M
  • YJ MGC3 Elite
  • Moyu Weilong WR M
  • Moyu Weilong GTS3 M
  • Valk 3 M
  • Gan 356XS
  • anything else you may recommend...
Thoughts and recommendations?
if price isn’t a factor 100% gan xs i also mained a little magic m and when i switched to gan xs it made me practise more and have more fun. If you like quieter smoother cubes the l 356 m is great.
i own
valk elite
wrm
gts3sm
xs
356m
and out of all these amazing cubes i actually like the 356 m the most but i still love the xs and would recommend it as your basically getting 72 different cubes and feels because of customisation the valk elite can also do this but THE CUBE IS TRASH DONT GET IT

Maybe the Moyu Weilong WRM/GTS3M.

If you like weak to moderate strength magnets I recommend the WR M or if you think ridges are cool and if you like 3 blind get the GTS3LM. If you prefer strong magnets give the GTS3M a try. You can’t really go wrong with Moyu flagship cubes, and they have the dual adjustment system so you could have loose tensions (like me) and crank it to the highest setting. All mentioned are good cubes, but why do you not like the Valk Elite?
