Opinions...

i'm planning to get a puzzle for each WCA event except for clock, 6x6, and 7x7, are these good choices?

moyu aosu

moyu pyraminx

moyu skewb

dayan megaminx w/ ridges

feiwu/weilong v2/meiying/hualong (really unsure here)

1. Yep, tho the Yuxin is pretty much on par with the AoSu, but at a cheaper price.
2. Yeah sure. I'm no Pyraminx expert tho.
3. Same as above
4. Yeah
5. Of the ones you listed, I think the WeiLong v2 is the best. (But the TangLong is better, lol)

What are the top four 5x5's currently available?
In order of best to worst (imo):

1. Yuxin (Pretty much the best all around. Very very smooth, soft- yet high quality plastic, good stability)
2. Cyclone Boys (Very stable, smooth but clicky)
3. MoYu AoChuang/ HuaChuang (Depending on preference, Ao is faster but less stable, Hua is slower but more stable, at least from what I've felt)
4. Modded ShengShou

Hello everyone!

I'm looking to buy a new 3x3 speedcube as I'm starting again to play with my small v-cube (with pillow edges). I would like to mention here that i used to own a 3x3 stickerless dayan zhanchi but I dont know anymore where it is, so i want to buy a new one. Actually, i can afford up to 10$ for two "good" (good for the money) 3x3 speedcubes (one stickerless, one with stickers) and one 2x2 cube to try out.

I've been searching on ebay and found these cubes that come around 10$. I think they are decent for that money; only the cyclone one appears to have confusing colors (i mean red and orange are pretty much the same).

What do you think about these cubes? Could you recommend me something better for that money?

thanks everyone

The Aolong v2 has become pretty much obsolete with the QiYi thunderclap (sometimes called the MoFang thunderbolt depending where yo buy it from) It's pretty much the Aolong just better, and half it's price.

The YJ GuanLong is a good, cheap 3x3, and the Cong's Design MeiYing is another one that a lot of people use as mains. People also seem to like the QiYi Thunderclap lately, although I don't have one so I can't say for sure. Those 3 should also be considerations. As far as quietness, the MoYu TangLong and MoYu AoLong GT are both pretty smooth, and therefore more quiet. The TangLong is a bit slower though, but for a beginner that shouldn't matter. Personally, I'd go for the MeiYing, AoLong GT, and maybe a Gans or GuanLong or Thunderclap.

As people have mentioned, the QiYi Thunderclap is awesome! (Especially for its price.) The 356 is the quietest cube I have used, so if you are ok with spending the money there, it would fit that category, for the third, I would say get the Tanglong probably if it had to be a 3x3, though I would personally say get a different type of puzzle rather than 3 3x3s, just to expand your area as a cuber, I would say go with a pyraminx to start, probably moyu, but I have no experience with the QiYi

Thunderclap is a good choice. Aolong v2 is a classic cube that should be good for evryone (thunderclap too, but I don't like it). Although gans 356 is my main I really do not recommend this cube for beginners. It is fast, have great cc (which won't learn you how to turn accurately and overall it is great, but not for start. I would go for zhanchi. If I were I would even not buy aolong, but sth cheaper and slower like: guanlong, qiyi sail. Maybe even yuxin, it is great too. If you will buy gans, remember to mod it properly (not cubeologist mod pls)
Happy cubing!
Gans ftw!

How can you like the Aolong and not like the thunderclap?

He's obviously willing to spend a bit of money, so why have him get the Guanlong DG?

I'm just going to give my honest opinion in a straight forward answer. For a quite cube, i don't know about the Gans, but the yuxin is, cheap, good quality, and quiet, plus it has ridiculous corner cutting. As mentioned the thunderclap is also very good, so definitely consider that. The third cube could honestly be anything, and i don't have anything besides the two i already mentioned, so i can only go off what i have heard. This has already been said but it think a MoYu TangLong/AoLong GT would be a good choice.

Aolong v2 was my second 3x3 cube ever (after aurora, which can be considered too), then I liked it. Now I don't like it and after switching cores with yuxin it is even worse. I thought thunderclap will be good, but I am so disappointed that I didn't care about it that much. I need to work on it or sell it. Well, I like my gans, I am a gans fanboy Gans ftw! again, and that feel of gans is nothing like other cubes. Tanglong is OK tho(It got part of that feel). YueYing is worth considering too. I didn't say I don't like aolong (love it), but I don't like v2.

It is good, cheap, not super-duper great so his turning style will be okey after using it.

Maybe buy 3x3 (yuxin will be good and evry one should agree with that) and other puzzles like 4x4? 5x5? 2x2? Skewb? Pyra? Square-1?
Or maybe even sth less 'standard' like mirror blocks, void cube etc..
Biscut, I know you won't read it XDD

He said in the post that he's only going to get 3x3's

This is just a idea. I bought many 3x3s and it is not worth it at all. Buying other puzzles is reasonable option too :)

After reading all replys im possitive i got 2 out of 3 cubes and thats the gans 356 and switching the aolong v2 into a aolong gt, as for the third im considering a thunderclap, is thunderclap same as the thunderbolt?

Smoother Aolong, harder to set up. Many people like it a lot.

I do like you alot, first you notice that the price tag is not something i care about since i personally dont think 25 bucks for a cube is alot

Cheaper cubes are a bit worse, so they can learn more accurate turning style, which is a good thing. Cheap cube is a good choice for begginnier, that's why you got those cubes here not couse we care about price. (:

e: yeah, same different pack only

Speedcubing is not big in sweden so i cant just go and try some out and then decide which to get.

Yes the Thunderbolt is the same as the Thunderclap. To Kudz, I disagree. With the cubes we have today, I don't think it's necessary to have a super dooper accurate turning style. It's certainly not a bad thing, but I find you will adjust your turning style no matter what cube you use.

Maybe it is me, but every solve that i do and it is not accurate it is like +2 at least. In my opinion at start cube shouldn't have best cc, cause it makes u less accurate, and when u are like sub 1, it should not make you that big diffrence and if you will take speedcubing seriously it will eventually help. i just tried best solution for typical beginner. But I cube for only one year so I might be wrong, I am a noob too. But not buying 'better' speedcubes at start was one of my best decisions I did.

About turning style: I need it just, because:
-OLLCPs/1LLL are not always fingertrick friendly, so I have to make weird stuff
-gans even wit great cc, catches sometimes when he should be not able to do it (that design)
Do what you want to do.

If gans 356: Mod it/buy 356s/buy 356s v2

Hi,

I am looking for a cube for casual use in the subway : I don't aim at sub 10s (nor even 20s) with it, but I want it to feel really good. To me this means :

-Turns (fast and) smooth
-Do not pop (too often)
-Possibly nice sound (not too loud)
-Have black borders around the colours - I just hate those all solid colors cubes
-Do not have stickers that wear with time and are approximatively aligned

The only cube I found that seems to match "out of the box" is the rubik's speed cube - pro pack.
-Nice black borders AND plastic colours
-Rather smooth without sanding once you replaced the springs, added washers, and lubrified. (but I still consider "out of the box' because everything is included)

It costs 20€ and just comes with enough lub for first time, but it might be an option.

Since I'm not afraid of modding, another possiblity would be to get a cheap YJ (or even a aolong V2), and paint it. With 6 colours, pencil, stencil, total cost would be high for the first cube (40-46€ depending on the cube), but I can choose the exact (mat <3) colours I want.

So, the questions :

-Is there any good cube which is black with solid coloured plastic inserts like the Speed Cube ?
-Which cube would you recommend for me for repainting (to have a perfect feeling, not to try to establishing new records) ?

Thanks you,
C.
