I haven't really paid attention to 4x4 in ages, but I'm going to start practicing again. I have a mini Qj but I imagine there are newer better things around now. What are the current 4x4's of choice?

If you are willing to spend any amount of money, the X-Cube 4 would probably be your best choice. The problem is, however, is that the price ranges from $40-$50. If you aren't willing to spend that much, I'd recommend the Shengshou 4x4 VIII. It's around $10-11 and is still an excellent choice.
I will add on, here at the end, that I am currently selling my own X-Cube 4 for only $30. It's white and has only been solved twice. I just need the money at the moment and don't have the time to practice 4x4 either. If you are interested message me here on Speedsolving.

Hi all, I have not cubed in a while but i was usually 50+s on a storebought. now i'm working towards learning more and going faster so which 3x3 would be decent enough.

Although Dayan's seem to be the typical answer nowadays, if you have the money, I'd recommend trying a variety. Dayans seem to excell in most things; corner cutting/reverse, speed, not much lockups, I just don't like the feel of them.
But if that's not important, then just go for one of the Dayans.

My 3x3 average is about 20 seconds. I have a Dayan Guhong, but it's run out of Lube and people tell me silicon spray won't help a Guhong. I'll probably go for a Lubix cube, maybe a Lubix Zanchi or LunHui, I really don't know though. Any 3x3 suggestions?
Also, I'll probably buy a Lubix Whittwo (don't know the spelling), good or bad choice?

I'd recommend a Lubix Zhanchi for a 3x3. It's my main at the moment; after you break it in it becomes AWESOME. As for the 2x2, definitely get a Wittwo. Best 2x2 out right now.

Dayan+mf8 or Shengshou v3?

If you don't pop cubes very much, then go with the Dayan+Mf8. Otherwise, go with the Shengshou.
