[Help Thread] Puzzle Choice Thread

Wheels of Wisdom. Yay, or Nay?

I have seen the Wheels of Wisdom puzzle circling around out there and I don't know if it is worhth buying. Tell me your thoughts?

Weilong doesn't require any modding. It is super fast and can corner cut a lot.
Fangshi ShruangRen is also good without modding. It has a scratchy feel which goes away in a couple of weeks. That's why I don't like it anymore.
Dayan Cubes are kind of outdated. They are still good though and can be modded.

The main thing is lube to me, don't get lubix or thecubicle lube, get traxxas diff oil. It is probably the cheapest. Get 10k or 30k for the pieces, 50k for the core.

I want to get a new cube I'm thinking about a weilong or a zhanchi modified if possible which would u prefer or is there somthing better out there
 
I want to get a pyraminx, I really dont know much about them so some input would be nice. I would just like one that works well. And i know Moyu and dayan are supposed to have some come out in the future so should i get one now or just wait for the Dayan or Moyu?
 
I would like a cube that is fast, smooth, with no pops, with no lock-ups, and has a lot of reverse corner-cutting. I don't want a fangshi shuangren.

Get a WeiLong. It never pops (seriously, i have never had a pop), never locks up if you have good turn accuracy, it is definitely fast and smooth, and it has awesome reverse corner cutting. Trust me, you will love it. If you don't you are either very picky, or not a cuber. The only issue is that people say it is uncontrollable, but you get used to it.
 
I want to get a cube that's fast and can last long I was looking at the weilong and apparently it's too fast for beginners so... And if I were to get one where could I get one that is already modded and lubed
 
hi!, i want to know, what cubes are better i want to buy 3 cubes, but i have to make my decition between 4, they are, the Fangshi shuan ren V2, the YJ/moyu liying, the YJ yu long, and the MF8 legend II, i currenty own 34 3x3x3 cubes, but this time i only can buy 3...

If you have to get 3 I'd nix the MF8 Legend. It's not very good compared to the others. The ShuangRen is fast-ish and scratchy, the LiYing is fast and clicky, and the YJ YuLong is fast-ish but has smooth clicky feeling.

Dayan is not coming out with one BTW where did you get that info?
 
Zhanchi considerations

Hi everybody! My main speedcube is a regular zhanchi but to be honest, I don't like its speed too much. Actually it is as fast as my guhong v2 (which feels a bit faster and lighter), it has almost the same feel (silky smoothness) and sometimes I can't use it because it gets faster only after a lot of solves. I have disassembled and relubed it many times but it hasn't changed a lot. So I realized that maybe it's just the way it is built. So I compared it with my friend's one and I have to say that they are totally different: my friend's cube is extremely fast and light, it's smooth but not silky smooth, it's like there is zero friction between the pieces and it's also much more stable then mine. So I want a zhanchi to feel like that and while I was watching videos on youtube I found this one of CubeorCubes:

That zhanchi feels exaclty as my friend's one but it is a 55mm. Now, I heard that there are many "versions" of the zhanchi and that 55mm zhanchis are different (=better) than the normal ones, so I'm thinking about buying a 55mm.
What do you think about my considerations? Then, I know this is a stupid question, but is it better to buy a DIY kit or not? And finally, my friend's cube and that showed in the review are white/uncolored cubes. Mine is black and I want a black cube. Is the plastic (and the cube) going to feel the same?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to speecubing. I know the Beginner's Method and I'm making the jump from a Rubik's brand storebought cube. It's very durable (I've owned it for over 4 years), and absolutely terrible for speedcubing. I'm not exactly poor so I'm choosing to upgrade to an actual speedcube rather than lubing my Rubik's.

I recently bought several cubes and I'd like to get advice on which of them, if any, qualify as good starter cubes. Due to a poor coincidence I didn't buy an Aurora (or Ghosthand or ShuangRen) which seems to have a consensus here as an excellent beginner cube.

These are the cubes I bought:

Dayan Guhong V2
Dayan Zhanchi (the Guhong seemed like a well-regarded evolutionary step towards the Zhanchi, so I assumed it'd be a solid choice to get a Guhong as well as this)
Moyu Huanying
Moyu Weilong (same reasons for getting these two as getting the Zhanchi alongside the Guhong)
YJ Yulong (bought on a whim actually, the pink version)
Maru CX3
Gans III


Would it be correct to assume that a good beginner's/starter cube has attributes that are more middle-of-the-road rather than reaching extremes? For instance, is being neither really smooth nor really crunchy a desirable trait in a starter cube? Same with being neither really fast versus being.. erm.. too controllable? :) I guess I don't know what the opposite of being so fast as to be uncontrollable would be.

Anyway, it seems like I don't quite understand all of the ways in which cubes can vary with each other across models. But that's fine, I'm just starting out. I'm just worried that if I go with a Weilong (for example) and get used to it, everything else will feel too slow by comparison since being lightning-quick seems to be one of the characteristics of the Weilong.

I don't want a cube that will make me blind with devotion (Hi rj, nice to meet you heh) so much I want to start on something that will show me what else is out there, so to speak.

Anyway, do any of the cubes I bought work as starter cubes? If none of them really do, I can go ahead and get an Aurora or ShuangRen, it's not a big deal.
 
I have been learning 4x4 on a Shengshou. It's cheap and cheerful but now that I want to start timing solves I need something that doesn't lock up all the time. Wallbuys have the Aosu at $20. Shall I get it or could someone recommend something better? Budget isn't really an issue but I do like value for money.

And yes, the aosu is essentially the best 4x4x4.

If you are not completely set on having a Zhanchi, i would recommend the Weilong. Mine is much faster than my really broken in Zhanchi.

There are lot of debates about Fangshi vs Weilong!
Personally, Weilong is uncontrollable for more than 20 seconds solvers. It can be overlubed to control but...
Whereas Fangshi II is an excellent cube which is fast enough for a sub 10 solvers andslow enough for 30 sec solvers.
Go for fangshi II or Weilong! watch some reviews and stuff! and come to a decision!
