UKcubestore.com is great for speed cubes.

Puzl.co.uk has a large range of puzzles but lots of them are knock offs if that sort of thing bothers you. Their gear shift (if they have one) will be a KO.

In your opinion...

What's the best Square-1 on the market?

What's the best Skewb? It seems like LanLan, but I want to make sure.

I'm not too sure about the square-1 but I hear it's either MF8 or Calvin's. As for skewb, the Lanlan is the best on the market right now but MoYu is supposedly releasing one as well sometime in the future.

Where can I get the MF8 Square-1 version 1 then?

I ended up ordering the Calvin's Puzzle Square-1. I watched a lot of videos and figured out that Calvin's uses the MF8 V1 mechanism, I believe with small modifications (the equator caps even have MF8 printed in them). But it definitely doesn't have the ball-core mechanism from the MF8 V2.

I need a 5x5 that's smooth and decently fast. I don't have my own lube or anything, so if it's needed, a shop that does this for you would be nice.

Right now the best 5x5 on the market is the ShengShou 5x5. It's pretty smooth in my opinion and only costs about $10. You don't really need to lube a 5x5 but if you want to you can pick up some Maru lube and put a few drops of it into your cube. Now MoYu is supposedly releasing their own 5x5 soon but we don't have a release/pre-order date yet. Of course at this point, we know very little about it so I can't say for sure if it's going to be good or not but based on MoYu's track record I won't be surprised if it becomes the best 5x5 on the market. But for now I would recommend the ShengShou 5x5.

Not sure where to begin with buying a few cubes

So, i'm 'very' new to speedcubing and i don't really know where to start. I only have a 3x3 cube from walmart so i am looking to get a better one. I can solve in about 2 minutes and 15 seconds using the beginners method. I have been playing around with fredrich f2l and i can do that pretty well but it takes me a decent amount of time to find the pieces, not excecuting the algorithms, but i havent timed myself doing that yet so i dont know if im faster doing that yet. I know 5 algorithms from the 2 look OLL just to give you guys an idea of how new i am...I dont even know all the 2 look OLLs...
- I am worried about buying a cube from somewhere and the site being a scam or something.
-How do i know which sites are actual good sites and which ones are not?
-Whats the best cube for not locking up (like when U is turned a little bit turned and i want to turn R, it wont turn. It gets stuck on the U corner piece) and easy turns after lubrication.
-which lubrication is the best.
-and which 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5s are the best, for a semi-new cuber to get and learn/practice on. I'm not sure what characteristics i want for those because i have never used them before so suggestions would be great.

-Any information helps, thanks.

If you're averaging 2 minutes, I would recommend either the Shengshou Cubes (Aurora/Wind). Anything Else will probably be too fast for you. If you want a cube that is faster, try the YJ cubes (Chilong/Sulong/Yulong). The dayan zhanchi is also a decent cube that fits fast and slow cubers. However the YJ Cubes corner cut better than Shengshou cubes. For 2x2, I would recommend a Shengshou or a Dayan. 4x4 and 5x5 definitely get a shengshou they turn pretty smooth however they can lock up. (You can mod yours to make it not lock up.) As you progress, later on you can invest in the Moyu Cubes, which are really fast. I average about 22 seconds and I use a mini weilong v2. I love it. I wouldn't recommend them now however since they are definetly way too fast and you don't really need that. http://thecubicle.us is a great site, its based in New York and the shipping is fast. All the cubes I mentioned here are on the site. http://cubezz.com takes a lot longer to come but better prices. Not many sites are scams, but watch out where you order from. Make sure you check if youtubers order from there also to see its legit. Most sites are legit.

Welcome to the forums! Oh, where do i start.. For 3x3, pretty much any good speedcube that you get won't lock up at your speed, unless you do really bad turns on it. I will let someone else tell you about good beginner 3x3s, because i pretty much started out with what was fastest at the time, which you shouldn't do. A very trustworthy store with great customer service that i would recommend buying from is: http://thecubicle.us/ it has very fast shipping which is free after $10, and a great selection of cubes. For lubrication, you really shouldn't worry about that yet, but a good and cheap lube is Traxxas 30k differential oil, you can get a pretty big bottle of it on Amazon for like $7. For 2x2's, you could get a Dayan 2x2, a Moyu Lingpo, or a FangShi 2x2, you can find them all at thecubicle.us, they are all pretty much the same speed so just look at reviews and pick which one you want. For 4x4, the best option would be the ShengShou v5 by far, it is not the best but insanely cheap ($7) and very good quality, and for 5x5, just the ShengShou 5x5 ($10). Good luck!

First of all welcome!
Now, to answer your questions:

1) There are plenty of cube stores that are competley safe to order from. I'm not sure where you live but if you live in the US then I would recommend The Cubicle - http://thecubicle.us/index.php?osCsid=7a3273e6116c4f35779ab31c6a9376c7
Now there are plenty of other trustworthy stores including HKNowStore, SpeedCubeShop, Cube Depot, Lightake, and Cubezz.

2) If you are unsure whether or not a site is trustworthy then you can look it up here on the forums. There is plenty of information on cube stores here.

3) Lock-ups are cause by poor turning not cubes specifically. While this is true some cubes are better at not locking-up than others. But what matters most in selecting a puzzle is speed. If you purchase a very fast cube when you turn slower, chances are you'll lock-up a lot more than if you used a slower cube. That being said, two good options I think you should look into are the ShengShou Aurora and YJ SuLong or ChiLong. I feel they would work well for you speed and allow you to work on your finger tricks better as well as improve your tps. However I think you should wait until you can solve a 3x3 in about a 1:00 to 1:15 but of course the choice is up to you.

4) Lube, just like everything else, is personal preference. I personally use Lubicle from the Cubicle but I feel like any silicone based lube is a good choice. If you don't have the means to purchase lube from a cube store then you can temporarily use silicone spray switch can be purchased in stores like Walmart.

5) A good option for you would probably be the ShengShou 4x4 and 5x5. I feel they are good puzzles for beginners because they are not only cheap but turn realitvely well. Now the ShengShou 4x4 is not the best one on the market but I feel it should work just fine for you at this point. As for 2x2 I don't think it really matters which 2x2 you use. There are plenty of cheap 2x2s out there such as the ShengShou 2x2 and Cyclone Boys 2x2 but I don't see why you couldn't use a better 2x2 like the LingPo or Dayan. They are a bit pricier but worth the money.

Hope this helps!

Wow that was a very thorough response. Thank you!

-I only think i have one question. How can a cube be too fast? What does that mean? Wouldn't a person (especially a new cuber) want the fastest cube possible for maximum skill increasing and time decreasing? I would think a faster cube= faster solve. If you could go into a little bit of detail on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Roosterfart
