I actually meant the ShengEn FII. I'll try out the Shuangren V2 as soon as I get a sub 35 average. HOw do you think it compares to a Zhanchi? I like smooth cubes(low noise) that have decent corner cutting etc. But I hate catches and lock ups. They ruin my solves. I heard on youtube that the shuangren is scratchy and crunchy/crisply feeling. What type of feeling do you think a Chilong has? Maybe clicky?

Oh, okay. Sorry :) The ShengEn FII is a pretty old cube by today's standards and it doesn't really compare to the cubes of this generation. Yes it was a lot of people's main at one point but not so much anymore. I still do use it from time to time but there's no way it's better than the ChiLong in my opinion. You shouldn't have to worry about lock-ups if your turning is good but because you are locking-up you need to spend some time working on your tuning. Just a little piece of advice, it might reduce your lock-ups if you slow down a bit and make good/efficient turns and corner cuts. It's better to go slower and be more efficient than it is to go faster and lock-up/pause a lot. And I do consider the ChiLong to be a clickier cube.

Sure. But how do you think the Shuangren V2 compares to a Zhanchi? Which one is better? I prefer smoother cubes to clicky ones. When do you recommend me to get one of these? I average around low 40s

The Zhanchi is one of the fastest cubes on the market right now and some people consider it to be a bit clicky. It's a great cube regardless and it's only out shadowed by the WeiLong which is faster and smoother. Now the ShuangRen and Zhanchi are two completely different cubes. The Zhanchi is fast and a little, tiny bit clicky while the ShuangRen is slower (when compared to the Zhanchi) but very, very smooth. If you like smooth cubes then you'll probably like the FangShi ShuangRen, the ShengShou Aurora, and eventually when you're fast enough, the WeiLong. I would hold off getting the WeiLong (or even the Zhanchi) though until you're sub-20. But this is just because of your turning issue. I don't think it would be the best thing for you right now to get one of the best cubes on the market until you've improved your turning. That being said you could probably get away with using a Zhanchi once you are sub-30. Now the reason I say that is because if you switch to a good cube now you miss out on learning essential skills you pick up using a 'beginner' cube.

I average around 45 seconds on a YJ Chilong. Should I get a new cube? My Chilong locks up way too much. Do you have any recommendations? I would like a slightly low costing cube(less than 15 dollars). I don't want any more YJ Cubes.

Perhaps your tensions are too tight.

Anyway, check out the cyclone boys cubes or the shengshou aurora. Both are good speedcubes and cheap.

There's no 'proper' time to upgrade your cube. What do you use right now?

I used a guhong up to about 30 seconds, then a Zhanchi, then a Weilong, but I don't agree with the school of thought that says you can't use a good cube until you're good!

The Shuang Ren is possibly faster than the Zhanchi, but the feel is COMPLETELY different. While the Zhanchi is clicky and smooth, the SR is scratchy and (for my personal preference) far too light. The plastic feels cheaper than Dayan plastic. You may prefer the smoothness, but might dislike the feel of the cube as a whole.

Of the two, I'd get a Zhanchi and mod it if you're fussy about making it smoother.

Ideally, have a go with both cubes at a comp, or buy both! ;)

There's no right or wrong time to change - grab one now. Please remember that a cube won't correct problems with your turning style, so if you get lockups with your current cube you will still get lockups with a "better" cube. Maybe less though!
I currently use a super tightened YJ Chilong. I tightened it in order to improve my prescision. I have not lubed it yet. I like smooth and click cubes so I'll probably get a Zhanchi.
I might try out the Shuangren V2 as it's cheaper. I plan on trying and maybe switching to Roux. A lot of youtubereview said the Shuangren V2 has really good M slices. THanks for the Help

*Not much of a hardware question* Welp, doin pretty good with my 3x3... What other puzzles do you guys suggest that I try next? I already have the mirror blocks, rubik's clock, and pyraminx...

^^ square 1

Hey guys,
I have been out of cubing for a long time (2ish years plus) and was wondering if somebody could give me a quick breakdown of the best 3x3 cubes on the market right now (or about to be released). 2 years ago I had a lubix zhanchi (which I loved, the perfect cube imo), guhong, lunhui and lingyun 2. My favourites were the guhong, zhanchi and lunhui. Are dayans still king or have others taken the lead?

Thanks in advance

Welcome back! Right now the best cube on the market is probably the MoYu WeiLong. Newer cubes have been released since the WeiLong was released but I still think it's the best. It's very, very fast and smooth. No lock-ups, no pops, it's just overall a really good 3x3. That being said I myself still use a good old Zhanchi as my main. There are also plenty of other new cubes on the market but I think MoYu is now king of the cubing market.

You could try 4x4 and 5x5. Before you get intimidated, once you know how to solve a 3x3 and have basic puzzle knowledge they are very easy to learn. ShengShou 4x4's are like 7 dollars at the cubicle, and there 5x5's are 10 plus free shipping on orders over 10, so you can get two very fun and good quality puzzles for a little more than the price of a 3x3.

What is the 1st 2x2 I should get? Lingpo or Wittwo. I like smoother cubes. Do black stickers on white cubes mess up cll recognition? Dayan is too expensive

Well neither the LingPo or WitTwo are very smooth, in fact they are both very clicky/crunchy but they are pretty fast. The Dayan is the smoothest 2x2 on the market but another 2x2 you may like that might be cheaper is the FangShi ShiShuang. It's very smooth and comes in a regular 50mm size and a 55mm size. The 55mm is very smooth and stickered while the 50mm is tiled. Either way both are great 2x2s. As for stickers, I only have one 2x2 that has black instead of white but in my experience it shouldn't mess up your color recognition and even if it does stickers are something that can easily be changed.

I guess I'll get the LIngpo. BTW the Shishuang is very expensive where I live. SHould I get a white or black one?

Dayan 2x2 or Gear Shift?

I am a begginer cuber, I only have this pound store 3x3, a homemade 1x1 and a homemade 1x1x2 but I am quite interested in the 2x2's and the gear cubes and have decided to buy a new cube, I first considered buying the dayan zanchi 2x2 but then I thought of the gear shift, they both seem increidable fun? What do you think I should get first? I am going to get one or the othe rand then the other a while later as I do not have that much money at the moment. Sorry for bad spelling by the way.
