Most of the sound when you solve doesn't come from turning, it comes from cutting corners; the corner piece snaps against the edge piece and creates a loud sound. There is not much you can do about it. You could try to turn more accurately so that you dont corner cut. Overlubing only makes the cube more gummy and makes accurate U2 flicks for example more silent, which they are anyway whether you overlube or not.

Which MoYu 3x3 is better?
Best is Weilong then LiYing. Yet to get my hands on DianMa but I think it would be better than LiYing as it uses a new mechanism :)

Both are same cube, go for the one with lower price :)

vaseline BAD, silicone spray GOOD

I have a competition to go to on the 30th. My current Rubik's cube is the newer, store bought cube which has been through vaseline and lube. Apparently the vaseline worked better than the lube I brought..Should I try a new lube or should I just leave the cube the way it is?

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081116112530AAIk7M1

Specifically, it says concerning vaseline:
"Vaseline (AKA petroleum jelly, I'm just gonna call it Vaseline for now) is a petroleum and oil based product. It just eat up the plastic inside your cube, causing it to become incredibly loose. You may think this is a good thing, but no, it will keep eating the plastic, won't stop till it's gone. Your cube will start locking and popping and it becomes very frustrating, and soon you can't use the cube anymore."

You should read the rest of the thread, too, because it has a good breakdown of what and what not to use and why. In a word, silicone spray is the way to go

Any differences on the 54.6 mm FangShi Illusion and the normal 57 mm? The color scheme looks awesome so are there drawbacks that should just make me buy the original?

Dont suggest getting a Weilong instead, im getting one too.

Oh also, if you had to pick one between the Chilong, Yulong, Liying, Huanying, Guhong and DianMa, which would it be?

After the trinity of speedcubes, which one would be next?

Oskar's Treasure Chest B-Day Special

So I was thinking about getting the Oskar's Treasure Chest + Blue Pyraminx for their sale, and I was wondering if the Treasure Chest turns, or if it's just a box. Also, does the bonus pyraminx/skewb included function as a puzzle, or a novelty? If so, how well do they turn compared to a store-bought Rubik's Cube? Thanks!

There is a video on yt of the treasure cube. It doesn't turn great, but is pretty nifty. Basically once it's solved a layer will open up (if you solve a certain side first, you only need to do f2l). I like the puzzle, as far as the pyraminx, not sure.

Ah. Alright, thanks! My friend's birthday is coming up soon and he was getting into cubing, so I thought that would be a pretty neat gift.

By the videos I've seen, they turn better than the Rubik's Cube (not the "Speed" one)

Timer/Mat?

Hi all! I am looking to get a timer/ mat to use at home. Any suggestions? What is everyones choice?
Cory

Hi Cory. There are a handful of timer/mat options on the market right now. The WCA uses Speed Stacks StackMats and timers in competitions so a lot of people choose to go with that option. The bundle (mat + timer + bag) costs about $29.99 plus shipping. QJ also makes a timer that is a lot cheaper ($14.99) but I hear it's of poor quality. Still if you chose to go with the QJ you could pick up a Maru mat to go with it.
