Um actually CRC messed up my old stickerless ZhanChi pretty bad. The insides are covered in white stains that are impossible to wash off, and it didn't even lubricate it. It was a bit smoother right after I sprayed the CRC, but now the stains just slow it down tremendously. I quickly got over it and bought Traxxas 50k. CRC is okay on harder plastics like that in a storebought, but it was horrible in my ZhanChi and it forced me to buy a new cube.

*coff* crc IS lubricant *coff*

my bad. I read incorrectly. anyway, how would stains slow down the cube?

I think he meant the white powder stuff that comes from the CRC is building up and is slowing down the cube.

I have never used CRC so can't judge on that or the effects.

CRC is lubricant but it doesn't serve as one when you use it on the wrong plastic.
They're not really stains I guess.... I'm not sure if it's the right word. Basically the pieces are covered in this thin white layer of dried CRC that is impossible to wash off. It was smooth at first, but it got sticky after a while and now they just slow down the cube a lot.

Hm... I've used it on my Zhanchi, just took it apart, and inspecting it a bit. They don't seem sticky, maybe it's because you tried washing it?

So I haven't been into cubing for almost 3 years now, but I really want to get back into 4x4 solving specifically. What is the best 4x4 I can get right now? Also have they been able to make it so even number cubes don't misalign?

Almost everybody will agree that the Shengshou 4x4 is the best 4x4. Most speedcubers will mod them as well, with the konsta and florian mods, since it does have a problem with locking up.

ShengShou 4x4 locks on the inner slices though, you need to do a mod to fix that, no matter if you have the v3 or v4.

Not a clue about the 6x6, I have one but I don't speedsolve it.

How did they fix the misaligning problem?

Generally spoken using the Pi modification (I don't know if you know it because he invented it 2008/09 I believe). While the Pi modification is using glued-in pins the Shengshou 6x6 uses little plastic bumps on the inner centers. The Shengshou 4x4 mechanism is a bit different though, it's hard to explain that one :)
Edit: The 4x4 modification is not too important, the latest WRs have been made with unmodified 4x4 cubes. I don't like the mod. But that's a different topic ;)

I do remember the Pi mod, I am gonna go look up some dis assembly videos of the shengshou, thanks.

So this is more of an FYI but I have a LunHui, Lingyun, 4x ZhanChi (2x black..one with torpedos's removed, 1x white, 1 stickerless), 2x Guhong v2s, a Lubix Fusion (guhong v1 with lubix torpedos) and 1x Guhong.

Anyway, I've been predominantly using my black torpedoless ZhanChi (pretty sure it is an original plastic as it is so smooth compared to the others) and my Fusion, but I went back to my v1 Guhong today for like 20 solves. Honestly it is quite possibly my favorite. Corner cuts as well as the ZhanChis and I can't get it to pop and it is pretty loose. All I did was a 48pt mod.

What 3x3 should I get?

I dont want a Dayan or Alpha 5. One that doesnt pop, is smooth, and cuts corners well.
