I currently sit at about 40-60 seconds on my Rubik's Cube.

I need a good solid cube, my friend just bought a "PUZL" one from Amazon and I'm jealous so I want to get a beast.

I require good corner cutting, and a 3x3x3, and a nice fast cube to help me get down to the 20s mark.

I've read alot about Haiyan's Memory and Alpha VI etc. But I don't really know where to purchase them, I live in the UK and shipping from the US will be expensive.

Price limit is £20.

Thanks,

Alpha CC

Alpha CC is good, but the Dayan Zhanchi is better. It pops less and has better corner cutting.

A bit more expensive, but worth it.

Looking for new main speedcubes, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 - Maybe 5x5, oh, and some decent lube, all from 1 website.
Im from Australia, thinking of buying from Kubaroo.net, since its probably the only Australian cubing store I know of.
I'm averaging around 30 seconds with my Shengen Fi (Water was spilt in it = Really slow D:)

I'm thinking of:
Wittwo 2x2 = $11 AUD
Dayan Zhanchi = $15 AUD
Dayan + MF8 4x4 = $20 AUD (Or should I wait for him to stock Minis? My hands are pretty small [13 Years old])
Maru lube = $3.50? AUD (Thats the only lube on the site)

Altogether = $50 Flat, I think...
With shipping = $8.30 AUD.
Please tell me if this is correct choice, check out the site if you want to ;]

Of people who have tried the Gans II, how does it compare with the top speedcubes on the market?

I don't own it, but have used a friend's a few times. It is one of the fastest 3x3s on the market, but it does have lockup issues (the corner cutting is lacking). Surprisingly, it doesn't pop either.

Best 3x3???

It's personal preference mostly. However, the majority of people would either recommend the Dayan GuHong, Dayan Zhanchi, or the Alpha V.

Can anyone comment on the Lubix Guhong (the normal one, not the Fusion)? I was thinking of getting a DIY Zhanchi as well as a Guhong and I was wondering how much difference the Lubix mod makes.

Also, I want to get a Square-1 to start learning it, I know basically nothing about them besides turning a few at a competition. What's a good one for a beginner? Are they more difficult to maintain than 3x3x3s?

I couldn't tell you which square-1 is best, but I can say that in my own experience that the square-1 does not required as much maintenance as a 3x3. The biggest problem might be that the caps for the pieces might come off, but there are plenty of simple fixes to that.

I'd recommend a Mf8 Square-1. They require a lot of breaking in at first, but after that, they are pretty easy to maintain.

Also, on the note of the Lubix GuHong, I've only tried one once, but all I can say was that it popped a little. I would say spend the extra $8 for the torpedoes.

This is probably a silly question, but what are torpedos and what kind of difference do they make? (just link me if there's already a good post/page on it) I've only heard of these recently, are they just sort of extra pieces of plastic that people have installed?

At CO, I saw a guy pop his cube, it wasn't a cubie that popped but a thin piece from inside his cube - would that have been a torpedo?

im assuming its torpedos in a 3x3? it basically prevents pops. dayan lunhui and zhanchi have them when you buy it and ive heard it makes the cube slightly clicky/lock up? (dont have a dayan cube yet so idk)

Yes, that would have been a torpedo. They are basically pieces that fit inside the edges that prevent pops. They look like this.
