I was thinking of getting a better cube once I hit 30 seconds average, but I'm stuck at around 35 right now. I turn pretty accurately now and was thinking of guhong of A5 (if people still use these) I was wondering what I would need to assemble this:

or is it better to just buy the assembled one for like $3 more. (sounds silly now seeing it written down)

I've got both the assembled and DIY Guhong. They are the same so far as I can determine. And it's not difficult to assemble. So save your $3. ;)

Is a screwdriver all you need?

Yeah, most of the pieces just pop together, you only need a screwdriver to screw in the core. If you've never assembled a cube before it's probably worth getting the DIY, it's interesting to see how it all goes together, and it gives you a nice sense of satisfaction when you've finished. For the guhong you may want some liquid lube, like Lubix, or I use Maru lube (which is really cheap on Lightake).

I would love some Lubixcube or even get an Ultimate, I don't have the funds though, being a student and all, other costs> cube costs :D I do have a can of CRC silicone to go through though, I'll have to get some better lube eventually. EDIT: I also remember reading somewhere that guhong screws don't go in properly or something like that, does this still happen or am I thinking of something different?

Not both on my set. But they are tight. Which is good - maintain the set tension longer.

In Donovan's ultimate mod video, he said the older guhongs (with black hardware) caused that, but the new hardware (silver, longer screws) go straight into the core.

My question: What would be the smartest choice right now?

-buy a guhong and mod it w/ ultimate mod or elite mod
-wait for lunhui/zhanchi release
im afraid that if i get a guhong, ill just replace it in a few months with the new cubes.

I would say get a guhong now because you know it's going to be good, and you can stick to that for a year easy without having to get a new cube, if you're really casual like me then there is no point getting stuff as it comes out, probably only for record breaking pros.

Go for Guhong. If lunhui/zhanchi is proven to be better, then get one in the future. Its not really expensive.
PS: even if lunhui/zhanchi are better, they can only be incrementally (small) better. For me personally, Guhong is like "wow" a jump, compared to my rubik's DIY or my A2.

Hey there =)

Its me again, I recently bought a GuHong on Lighttake (white one). Now I am looking for more white cubes on Lighttake (3x3x3), all together maybe 20-30$.

Thanks in advance =)

allright i am looking for a new 3x3 to replace my horrible old type A.

what i am looking for is about the same corner cutting, something a bit faster and easier caps to take off (it takes me like 5 minutes to pop the caps of my type A)

im willing to go up to 20 bucks.

what do you suggest?

Av if you want it similar (around $10) may want to mod the corners, its easy
I also liked the haiyan cube
or a guhong. you cant go wrong with a guhong (around $12-14) may want to mod it REQUIRES LUBE

I recommend you use a storebought, lube it with silicone, and practice. It is sturdy and it can cut corners. Sub 20 is achievable.
