[Help Thread] "What cube should I get?" The Puzzle Choice Thread

Shengshou is definitely the best one out there. Be warned it’s far from a speed cube though. Maybe you could lube and set it up but mine would be very hard to turn fast. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great puzzle and very entertaining but the state of Gigaminx hardware lends itself to causal not necessarily speed solving.

Cuboids are great fun in the non-wca world. The 3x3x4 and 3x3x5 are fun puzzles and present a new challenge. The 3x3x5 shape shifts which is fun and IMO is much harder than the former.

It is less of a commitment, and many people think hte 11 is too fast

Ya problem is for going REALLY fast, gan is the only cube out thats good unfortunately. Not even MSCube according to the cubicle.
Whenever I spam too hard (Tryhard) on my RS3M sometimes an edge piece pops out. Its wierd. The Antipop mechanism stops it from fully popping but it is not properly in the cube. You have to stop and lightly push it back in which can be anooying in the middle of an algorithm. (RS3M is still my main.)

huanglong is a lot worse than cubes such as Valk m and guhong v4

I would buy the Guhong v4 over both of those. It's less expensive, so you have money left over for other cubes. I know of people main the Guhong v4 over those like @Owen Morrison, but if you really want to go with a Gan puzzle (They are certainly not the best options at this point in time) I would go with the 11 M pro. Also, based on what you said your 3x3 pb is in your member intro, you will not improve with a better cube (Unless you main a bad cube).

Hello and welcome to the forums. Based on the PB of 23s you mentioned in your intro thread what you most likely need to improve is knowledge and not a new cube unless your are solving on a really bad cube as @MJS Cubing said. Now, we have no idea what you currently solve on but please be aware that GAN cubes are not objectively better just because they're expensive.

I personally recommend the GuHong v4 over the XS (I own both) and would shy away from ththe very expensive 11 M Pro because you could easily get 3 other cubes that are main worthy for he price of th 11. IMO having multiple cubes of different styles is very beneficial so you can more easily find a cube that fits your turning style...and your really won't know what your "style" is until you've solving for a while.

So we have a local retailer cubing shop and its online and everyone can sell and buy there . So a seller has a second hand Gan 356 XS and the other one has a new unopened Gan 356 M and the second hand Gan XS costs 22$ and the new Gan 356 M is 30$ and i was wondering what i should get?

I have Galaxy lube i guess and the seller actually said that he opened the xs a month ago and approximately did 200 solves

I broke my Meilong 4x4 which gives me the excuse to buy a new cube. I'm on a slight budget and right now the best thing I afford the MGC, but I've been hearing good stuff about the Aosu WRM, but it's above my budget. Is the WRM worth saving for or should I just get the MGC as a safe bet?

NEVER SECOND HAND GAN. Mine broke in 6 months and many others have similar stories.

If I were you I would get the Guhong v4, which you can get new, and it won’t break on you. It is less money and better than both of those cubes.

The great thing aabt 3x3 is you dont need to pay 60 for a good cube. My main is the RS3M which is $9 and I chose that over the X

yeah a lot of beginners make the mistake that a Gan is good because someone fast uses it and it’s expensive. there are many fast people that use qiyi cubes, moyu cubes, yj cubes, and even kevin hays mains a yuxin huanglong.

id first try the guhong v4 because it is cheaper so if u like it, you did not have to spend any extra
