Another question, does anybody know any PBL algs for 2x2x3? I don't really care what they do to the middle layer, but if they don't do anything to it, that would be nice.

Ad-Adj(bars in front) - R2 U' B2 U2 R2 U' R2
Adj-Diag(bar on bottom left) - R2 U R2 U' R2 U R2 U' R2
Diag-Diag - R2 F2 R2

I don't know any cases for when a layer is solved(I just do the adj-diag to setup another case), but you can find them somewhere. I basically just use 2x2 PBL

When people post in the easy scramble or accomplishment threads, they often don't say which event it was for. Are all scramble notations easily identified to their cube type (obvious FMC and BLD would be stated).

Megaminx and Clock and Square-1 have unique scramble notation. 4x4s and above we see 2Rs and 3Rs and stuff. And multi Layer moves. And pyraminx has some corner tip rotations with small letters

I assume the latest one in easy scrambles thread is 2x2, based on it being short?

2x2 scrambles are true 3Gen scrambles with only R U F moves, ill make a list for what events have wich moves

2x2: R U F
3x3: R U F L B D
4x4: R U F L B D Rw Uw Fw
5x5: R U F L B D Rw Uw Fw Lw Bw Dw
6x6: R U F L B D Rw Uw Fw Lw Bw Dw 3Rw 3Uw 3Fw
7x7: R U F L B D Rw Uw Fw Lw Bw Dw 3Rw 3Uw 3Fw 3Lw 3Bw 3Dw
Skewb R U L B
Pyraminx R U L B r u l b

Square-1 Clock and Mega all use different notation than the ones listed above so it's easy to figure them out

2x2s can also use L moves and B moves. Tho D is rare, I don't think D is used in 2x2s
They technically can (as in, nothing in the WCA regulations prevent that per se), but D, L and B moves are redundant and in practice they're not used when generating scrambles. csTimer doesn't use those. qqTimer doesn't use those. TNoodle doesn't use those. Etc.

If you see D, L or B moves in a 2×2×2 scramble, it's almost certain you're using a bad scramble generator.

Explanation: A B move is just an F’ with rotation

Very helpful, thanks. I've only hand scrambled anything besides a 2,3 and 4x4. I guess the above is reasonably obvious once you've done a number of scrambles on all cubes.

Are WCA scrambles public at all? so like is there anyway to see the scramble on a world record or something?

does it say anywhere which round the person was because theres 28 different scrambles for the round
I'm assuming you're asking about the scramble group, not the round; the answer in that case is that the WCA database does not track which scramble group competitors get assigned to.

If there's a video recording of the solve(s) you're interested in, you can either (i) reconstruct from video or (ii) compare the scramble(s) in the video against all possible scrambles for the round.

Howdy

A while ago I saw a post in a Facebook group about an alternative to the standard notation (R U R’ U’) that used hand written shapes such as a clockwise arrow, a diagonal line, a triangle, etc. I’m fully happy with the standard notation but I’m not really good at memorizing long algorithms and when I try to show my friends an algorithm I either have to look it up or write down what my hands are doing and do the algorithm a few times. I wondered if anyone knew what this notation was called or may have a lead on how to learn more about it. I know about some of the other notations that use O and U and I’m not really interested in those at the moment. My brain works better with sounds and shapes and I am interested in alternative notation methods to help me help others.

Thanks
