Honestly, there is no answer. If you have the opportunity to try cubes (a friend or a local competition), that's a good way to find a good cube for you, but otherwise, any of the following would work, and it all comes down to personal preference:
Cong's Design MeiYing
Gans356
MoYu AoLong V2/GT
MoYu TangLong
QiYi Thunderclap
FangShi JieYun
YuXin
etc.

Pretty much just watch reviews on all of these (which it seems you've been doing) and choose the one that looks like it has a feeling that fits you. Honestly though, you could just pick one at random and get very similar times compared to any of the other ones.

You basically had the same list that this person had, I might go with what he recommended as it has very good reviews on the cubical and this person seems to have done his research.

And like you said, I will end up getting the same speeds on any of them.

here is a tip- DONT BUY THE AOLONG V2. It's a great cube and all, but here are a few things you need to first read:
-the cube slows down after a while, and it is painstakingly hard to get it back to normal speed. This is achieved through lubricant, however it dries out quickly.
-It corner clips too much. trust me, you will regret it when you get a corner flip DNF on a possible PB time
-it slowly deteriorates. what I mean is that the whole good performance just dissapears after a while. It's like candy. For a while, it tastes good, but later on it just dissapears.
-You can get way better cubes with the same 16 bucks. Examples are the meiying, hualong, tanglong, qiyi thunderclpa, etc.
-you will be too spoiled by the good corner cutting, so this will cause you to get an inacurate turning style. Why? the aolong corner cuts extremely well, even if you overshoot. Probably you will get a bad turing style. I know that other cubes are the same, but on the aolong, you practically cna't feel it corner cutting which means that you don't know if you have corner cutted o Now, I'm no ttelling you to get a locky cube, just keep that in mind.
So, those are the reasons why you shouldnt get a aolong v2. Maybe try a qiyi thunderclap (that one also gets slow after use) but my reccomendation is the meiying. It doesn't get slow even without lube, however I highly reccomend to lube it first and then use it as the cube breaks in the lube and it becomes extremely smooth.

i wouldnt want to call u a liar but half of these things do happen with like basically every other cube so this isnt a reason to not get the aolong v2. some people like controllable cubes. while u say that the aolong v2 is slow, maybe you just like fast cubes. but as with everyone else i do recommend the qiyi thunderclap because its really good at a cheap price so yeah.

Btw rhezner, this belongs here : https://www.speedsolving.com/forum/...should-I-get-quot-The-Puzzle-Choice-Thread&p=

Well Im ordering the MeiYing, I didn't go with the thunderclap because it wasn't the #1 on the youtube video I linked and most of the time you get more for more money, not always but most of the time, the MeiYing also has a bit better reviews on the cubical. I don't see any reason not to go with it.

there is no such thing the best speedcube. just because the meiying is on top doesnt mean it's the best for everyone. Even cubeytime uses the tanglong. It's all personal preference but the meiying is a great cube and im sure you'll love it. :)

I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE TALKED ABOUT THIS:

When i first started my biggest problem was that my FINGERS HURTED so bad that i couldn't practice as much as i wanted to. So when you want to cube for hours on end, and cant stop because its so much fun, then you want an LIGHT and FAST cube as your first cube. I first had a weilong, then an aolong and then the gans 357. when i got the 357, i could practice for hours without my fingers getting sore. (It was amazing :) ) But now i think the MEIYING is even better than the 357, its even lighter and really fast. So get the meiying.( it's my main.)

AND Definitely get MARU LUBE. This lube is AWSOME. (Makes the cube 10x faster)

And i would recommend getting MARU SOFT SPRINGS from the cubicle. (Soft springs makes cubes also faster)

Thats it, I hope i could help.

I've been happy with both the DaYan Zhanchi and the MoYu Weilong. I used a Guhong for a while but didn't really care for it. My brother has a white Guhong that works pretty well but my black one sucked.

The Zhanchi is my personal favorite. I recommend one of those.

I disagree too. The Aolong V2 can be fast or slow. I set my friend's up with Weight 2, and it's magic. It's really light and smooth. Corner cutting is good on all cubes nowadays anyway, so unless you're down grading, then the inaccurate turning isn't going to make a difference.

AND Definitely get MARU LUBE. This lube is AWSOME. (Makes the cube 10x faster).

Maru lube is AWESOME. Don't lose it like I did.

Your choice on cubes. If you can't decide which one, get them all.

So my friend just got into cubing, he averages around 1:40, any cubes that would suit him? He like corner cutting, no lock ups and smoothness in general. Thanks

I would highly recommend the QiYi thunderclap. Compared to other quality cubes it is quite cheap, but still gives the good performance. As for smoothness, add maru soft springs and the cube is unbelievably smooth, however, you do have to keep it on tighter tensions, so it looses some corner cutting. Lock-ups are not a problem at all with this cube, and pops are non-existent (at least for me).

So, 3x3 with smooth, crisp and fast turning. Not too bothered about corner cutting though some give for <M U> would be nice. Fast M slices as well please and with regards to tensioning I don't really mind the set up and can work with very loose tensions. Preferably cheap but I don't really mind. The problem I have is that one of the internals is broken on my Gans 357 though I like that cube a lot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

What is this 'fat turning' you speak of?

The cubicle sells replacement pieces.

thunderclap, yuxin, hualong, jieyun are good choices

55mm stickerless or stickered zhanchi? Apparently both feels different as they supposedly have different plastics. I've heard that the stickerless one feels nicer than the stickered one, but the stickerless one has more problems like popping etc. I don't really care whether stickers peel or any other minor problems, just want to know which one performs better.
By the way, I heard that dayan used a better plastic for the newer batch for the zhanchi, but not as good as the original. The newer batch 55mm zhanchi box is purple and white unlike the older batch which is dark purple.

dude that sounds like ur meiying does full 360s ............. controllable cubes are the best......

It does 270s :) No, seriously, Thanks for replying to my comment. I average about 15-16 seconds, I have 2 Meiyings (actually 6 :) ) one really fast for non timed solves, and one controllable for timed solves. I mostly do untimed solves while watching something on the Internet, and for that i use my superfast, light cube, so i can cube for hours on end.
When i averaged 40 seconds, i had a controllable cube. My hands hurted so bad after 7h of cubing (Yes, I'm crazy) That i couldn't practice for 3 days :( .

Yes, thats true, I get better times with a slower cube. But i average with my extremely uncontrolable cube about 0.5 seconds slower.

My point was this: (Only as beginner, because your hands get used to it) If you love cubing so much, and you want to practice 3,4,5 hours every day, It's lovely to have a cube where your hands does not hurt like crazy. And thats why i recommend a really fast cube for beginners.

Thanks for reading, happy cubing.
