Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a megaminx, but I'm not sure which to get.
I have two 3x3s, a Zhanchi and a Fangshi (Version 1), and I love the feel of the Fangshi.
Any ideas?

A safe choice would be the dayan megaminx. The other megaminxes need modding to be great. I bought mine with ridges and now regret it, so I'd recommend without ridges. Also dont buy a white one (like I did hoping that the stickers would look better), because the gaps eat all the crap that flies around your house and it'll look really dirty really fast.

Just for future reference, if I decide to enter a competition, would the mods required for the other megaminxes be allowed in competitions?

Yes, the modded megaminx would be allowed. I'm entering Australian Nationals 2013 with a modded Shengshou.

I've been using a lubed Rubik's 4x4 since I learned how to do it. I am now sick of it because, well, it's a Rubik's 4x4. What should i get now? I was thinking of the Shengshou 4x4 V5. Tell me if I should steer in another direction.

go with SS or the YJ/MoYu 4x4

If you do a Slight florion mod to the centers than it will fix the Lockups for the YJ.

Honestly the ShengShou v5 is already so good that it doesnt need any mods. When lubed well and tensioned correctly it doesnt need the florian mod. It still locks up less than anything else unmodded even without the konsta mod. It is also dirt cheap.

When you mod it you get a great cube that shadows any other 4x4s, but out of the box it's still as good if not better than others.

It still needs modding no matter what, thanks to the fact that every time SS comes out with a new version of 4x4 they hardly change anything at all. The V5 has a freaking bump on the centers...that's it. The edges and corners are the same, so the Florian mod is still required. The internal edges are exactly the same, so the Konsta mod is still required.

Sorry...i just hate SS 4x4s...especially because they're the best.
