I'd get the square one. Unless you have a rubiks 5x5 as your only 5x5.

NO 5x5, actually. A terrible Rubik's 4x4 with a broken/superglued center.

I was told the exact same thing one month ago. I now have 8 3x3's :P.

Meh. Maybe i can get away with something like icubemart's portable bundle. I don't particularly want any of those cubes though. For future reference, good OH cube? I've heard 55mm Zhanchi and Lingyun (Lunhui? I get the two confused.), any other really good options?

I'll think about it, decide between the two.

It's a bit smaller, I couldn't give an exact measurement, but it's definitely a bit smaller than my Zhanchi. 55-56mm?

What are the best / most popular cubes nowadays?

Hi folks

I haven't been cubing very seriously for the last 6 months, just a couple of solves every week. I didn't catch up with the cubing news either, so my knowledge about cubes is really outdated.

While I don't plan on starting to cube seriously again, - I don't even think I'll ever do again due to being too busy - I do plan to buy a new cube. For the last year, I've been using a coloured Zhanchi and I've always been very satisfied with it, but I kind of ruined it last week.

I put it in my pocket and took it to work, and a pen that was in my pocket too leaked and the Zhanchi was covered with ink stains. I took out one cubie and tried everything to get the ink out but all to no avail. Finally I tried some acetone (not a smart move, I know, but hey, nothing else helped) and as you could expect; it damaged the plastic.

So now I have an ink stained Zhanchi with one ruined cubie, so I decided to just buy a new one. While I won't be speedcubing again, I still want an awesome cube though. I'd like the new cube to be a coloured one again. I don't plan to go to a competition anytime soon anyway and I hate having to replace the stickers after some time.

So... did any new Dayan cubes get released in the last half year? Or cubes from another brand? What are the most popular cubes nowadays?

Thanks in advance!

Should I get a Dayan Guhong V2 3x3? Any other 3x3s in mind?

Hey everyone, I'm currently a new member to this forum. (Browsed the site before, but made an account today) Now, there is already a thread on which Rubik's Cube I should get. But the thread is almost 3 years old, and it's probably not up-to-date..I've taken a look at the Dayan Guhong V2 and it seems pretty nice. I currently use a store bought Rubik's Cube. (It sucks..) I've lubricated it with MD-40 and Petroleum Jelly, but it still can get ANNOYING. I average about a minute and 14-28 seconds. (Pretty good, at least, in my opinion. Lol.) So here's the HUGE question.

Should I get a Dayan Guhong V2 3x3 and why? I need to have the ability to tension and lubricate it. And I really want on that has a lot of speed, and cuts corners.

if not a Dayan Guhong V2 3x3, then do you have any other ones in mind and why?

Thanks :)

The Guhong V2 will always be my favorite cube, but it is equally tied in quality with the Zhanchi. The difference is the Guhong is much smoother, while the Zhanchi is a bit more clicky (definitely not in a bad way). Dayan is also coming out with the Panshi later this month so you should probably also look into that. You should also look into silicone lubricant which is much more effective and lasts much longer than other lubricants. I hope this helped.

The Guhong V2, Lingyun V2, and Zhanchi are all fairly fast and corner-cut well. I prefer the Guhong V2 and Zhanchi (but my opinion does not matter. You should decide for yourself.) The Guhong V2 is the smoothest of the three if that matters to you.
When you get your cube you certainly should NOT lube it the way you lubed your store bought. You should use silicone spray, maru lube, Lubix, traxxas, or something like that.

Thanks everyone so far, I plan on purchasing Silicone spray at the local hardware store later, and I'll probably buy the Guhong V2 since it's the smoothest. :)

The Gugong is still my fav cube. It is so smooth! The Zhanchi is nice, too, and preferred by many. You really can't go wrong with any of the Dayan cubes. Can't wait to try the new Pashi.

Do you actually get 14 second averages or do you mean singles. Because if you mean averages then you are extremely inconsistent.

Newbie questions

Hello,

I am new here, and new too speed cubing so I have a handful simple questions. I cube just for fun and don't compete. It's just something fun to do while slumming around the house and watching TV.

1) I am looking for a speedcubes in 3x3, (and eventual 4x4,5x5) and I am not sure what to look for. The only request I have is that I can corner cut, but I am guessing just about all speedcubes can do that. I currently have only the Rubik's flavors and the 4x4 and 5x5 pop like crazy. I like the idea of stickerless cubes, in my opinion they just look better.

2)I am also looking for a twisty type that is easy for my elderly father. He taught me to cube years (and years) ago, but he has MS and the 3x3 is getting hard for him solve, so I want something that is easy to turn, but fun to solve.

3)Just for fun, what is a fun, non standard twisty puzzle to solve? I like the idea of the 12 color Megaminx, but outside of a pyramid, I have not solved any 'non-standard' twisty puzzle.

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

I would recommend the stickerless Dayan Zanchi as a good speedcube. I have a white tiled Zanchi with my own color scheme and I love it. You may also get a guhong though. Dayan (the company) makes the Zanchi and Guhong both in stickerless. Some prefer the Guhong and some th Zanchi. Best cube for corner cutting that there is. For your father, they make cubes that are bigger than standard size. You could just loosen the tensions to make it easier to turn. I am not sure as to where to get one though. For just solving for fun, my personal favorite is the curvy copter and the mf8 mars, though the mars is pretty hard.
