Thanks for your input Competition Cuber. I also found a Youtube video reviewing the Air UM from a prominent Roux solver that really liked it so it does seem to be a good fit for M-slicing. I see your profile says you use a GTS2-M though. Is this mainly due to the cheaper price then?

I switched to a Valk M. I don't own a UM, but I used to (and my friend has one), and the M slices really were amazing.

I'm back after a long hiatus from Cubing. My last main was the Moyu AoLong v2, has there been any new cubes that came out or new hardware? Also, side note, can I take a washer from a v1 and drop it in a v2?

Yea there have been major advancements in basically every cube's hardware since the AoLong. I recommend either a Moyu GTS2 M, Qiyi Valk 3 M, or Gans Air UM, those are the big 3 of 3x3 cubes these days. All amazing, personal preference between them.

You can probably take the v1 washer and use it in the v2, assuming it fits.

What is your favorite 3x3, and what are the pros and cons? Looking to get a nice one, but I am absolutely clueless :p

Edit -
So far I think I like the Gan 356 V2 the best. Thoughts?
The ones most considered to be the best on the market nowadays are the GAN 356 Air, the WeiLong GTS and WeiLong GTS V2, and the Valk 3 (and all of their magnetic versions

I'm in the exact same situation. I used to main the Aolong v2 and sometimes use a Yueying and Yuxin 3x3 from two years ago.

The big thing now is magnets. GTS2M is a good cheap way to try out a modern magnetic cube, I'd start there.

Two questions...

1. What's a good budget speed cube to magnetize with N35's? This is basically just a project to learn with and have a nice inexpensive cube to let people use to feel what magnets are like. Warrior W maybe? I've read that the thickness of the plastic matters and I have no idea how to tell what thickness different cubes have or what thickness matches well with N35's.

2. I just got my first Megaminx a couple days ago, it's the Qiheng which is their budget model. I like it. I'm about to order some cubes for a kid's birthday gifts and I'm planning on getting him a Megaminx so I've got the opportunity to give him my Qiheng and pick up a Galaxy. I'm wondering though, what specifically is better about it and by how much?

1. Yeah, warrior w or mf3rs would be good for that.
2. I don't have the galaxy, but I've heard that it is fast and has good corner cutting. Make sure to get the sculpted version;)

N35's are probably a little weak for the MF3RS. I used N50's and they still weren't very strong compared to some other cubes.

Im new to speed cubing but for me when i start something i go all in. Now from reading and looking around there are a number of cubes that are good but a lot depends on style and feel. So i was just after a few non-budget cubes to buy to try out.

I know of the gans 365 air Ultimate, Valk 3, Weilong? Unsure about much at the moment.

Also is it worth looking at springs or lube? Again as im new this is fairly new to me as well.

Finally, some of the cubes now use magnets, I don't think its worth using these ones just yet but i could be wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Amy

(Also sorry if this thread isn't welcome as i'm asking about cubes and feel free to delete)

Honestly, anything around today is great. Even the super cheap cubes are better than the high end ones 4 years ago. But i would recommend going with something a little slower than things such as the valk or gans. It also depends largely on what feeling you think you'd enjoy, so i'd have to say get an MF3RS and then upgrade to one of the more premium cubes a little later on when you have a better grasp on what you'd want from the cube.

And yes look into lubricants! Recent advancements with lube have really opened alot of variety for styles, maybe a high viscosity lubricant would suit you best as a beginner, but those are the types of things you can easily mess around with.

I know this may not have really helped but the truth is that most cubes can get the job done, it just depends on you. I personally love a smooth, light feel with a good M, E and S slice, but i also prefer the cube to be cheap as i do alot of MBLD and need about 30 of them. So for me, as of recently, i use the MF3RS.

Hope this has atleast helped a little.

Alex,

I think it's hard to go wrong with a Valk 3.. I personally have the Gans 356, weilong gts2 m, aolong v2. magnetic is always nice if you don't mind the higher price.

But it all comes down to personal preference.
For me the Gans doesn't work at all, and others love it. Have a friend who think the regular valk3 is too fast and prefer to use my cubicle labs Valk M (my main)

Definitely get some lube while your at it and also a bag so you don't scratch your new cube.

I also prefer Stickerless because it's easier for me to kind of see colors behind edges, it doesn't wear out as fast and the stickers feel kind of sharp in the edges on some cubes.
