My trusty Fangshi ShuangRen finally reached the end of its lifespan last night. The connecters on the stem of the red/white/blue corner snapped, no more than six hours after I announced to the community that the Fangshi was my main speedcube. I'm now looking for a new speedcube with a few requirements:

1. Minimal corner twists. This was a large problem on my Fangshi.
2. Fast, but controllable. It was a bit hard to move from one turn to the next on my Fangshi.

Any suggestions?

Probably GuoGuan YueXiao

Guoguan yuexiao. Fast, controllable, corner cuts anywhere, kinda a sandy feel out of the box like a fangshi, squared off corners so no corner twists

You should get the BoChuang 5x5. It's at an unbeatable price for either a 5x5 or a 6x6.

Setting aside the price, you'll learn more going from a 4x4 to a 5x5 than you would going from a 4x4 to a 6x6.

Learning a 5x5 makes it easier to learn a 7x7 or higher odd cube. A 5x5 does in fact have a parity situation, but you can fix it using the one you learned for the 4x4. I don't think you'd get bored quickly with the 5x5. After you've learned the 5x5, then you can decide whether to jump to the 6x6 or 7x7.

If you're looking to master another puzzle entirely, I'd recommend the megaminx. If you like to intuitively solve puzzles, you should enjoy the megaminx because all of it can be solved using extrapolated 3x3 algorithms. The YJ megaminx is budget-priced but some people really dislike it. The Dayan megaminx with the ridges is considered among the best, but it's also among the most expensive.

Thank you for the reply! I will probably order a megaminx but do you have any other suggests of a puzzle that is maybe more different than the 3x3? I enjoyed the 4x4 a lot at first because building the centers was new to me coming from a 3x3 but once I get to the top layer it gets pretty boring because of how much I solve it. The megaminx definitely looks fun but if it's pretty similar to the 3x3 I would like to get something else also.

Pretty much I loved learning the 3x3 months ago because there was so much to learn and it was all brand new to me. It would be nice to find another puzzle that is intuitive and also requires learning different techniques and isn't too similar

Thanks again!

Hello Friends ! I am looking to buy a 2x2. I am like a beginner , I know how to solve it but I am not as fast ! I lost my last 2x2 cube.. :( .. So can people help me take which one ?
As I am in a budget  I have taken the YJ GuanPo and YJ YuPo in the consideration.. Any thought on this ??

@aholeinthewor1d: Something really different from 3x3 would be skewb, pyraminx and sq-1. If you want something that's not speedsolvable you can try other things like helicopter and things like that.

@Pragitya: You can try the GuanPo, if you're on a budget. My favorite 2x2, though, is still the Dayan, which is not as cheap and needs a lot of breaking in and correct lubing/setup. Tell me how it goes if you get the GuanPo.

I am looking for a new 3x3.
It has to be stickerless, half-bright, but with a lighter blue.
It has to be buttery smooth and very quiet.
Price doesn't matter.

At the moment I use a Weilong. Before I used a Zhanchi. I enjoy the feeling of the Zhanchi more, but the Weilong is faster and overall the better cube. Iwant to switch to stickerless puzzles, so I'm looking for a cube, that combines the smooth feel of the Zhanchi with the speed and performance of the Weilong.

I think it comes down to a decision between the Thunderclap, the Guoguan and the Meiying. But any suggestions will be welcome.

Also, does anyone know, if speedcubeshop ships to Germany?

If you're looking for something really different from a 3x3, I agree with all of Mafergut's suggestions on a Skewb, Pyraminx, or Square-1.

To be honest you might find the Pyraminx to be too easy. I keep several of my twisty puzzles at a friend's house, and none of my friends like scrambling the Pyraminx because it seems to minor of a challenge for me to solve. They also don't like the feel of the puzzle in their hands because I think they all prefer to scramble cube shapes. That being said, intuitively figuring out the Pyraminx isn't as easy as intuitively learning the Megaminx, at least in my opinion, so you'll have more fun figuring it out. It just might seem a bit too simple once you've learned it.

Just to be sure, do you already know the 2x2? You might as well knock that one out on your Enlightenment Quest. :)

The Skewb will be fun to learn. The Square-1 is evil, in my opinion. It's an ingenious puzzle, but I don't have the patience to memorize all the patterns for it.

Shape mods are also fun, but since they're more or less just variations on a supercube, you're not going to have to really stretch your brain to solve them; you just need to be meticulous. I have a 4x4 Aosu Windmill cube, and while it's basically the same as solving a 4x4, I do enjoy it for times when I want something more substantial than a 3x3 but don't have the time to sink into a 7x7. There's also the ghost cube.

So the hardest to try out of all the suggestions you've been given would probably be the Square-1. The easiest to learn would be the Megaminx, but I don't think that means you should necessarily bypass it altogether, because learning it will open you up to the more complex Gigaminx.

Easy time of it: learn the 5x5 and the Megaminx.
Challenge: learn the 5x5 and the Square-1.

The 2x2 is waving at you from across the room. You can wave back or pretend you don't see it.

Thanks ! But there is no stickerless version of it :/ . So I will probably take the black base colour one :)

smooth and quiet... I'd say Guoguan Yuexiao

That seems to be the default answer these days. After watching some more reviews, the gans is probably an option as well, even though there is no stickerless version available. I think, I don't like the octopus core though.
What about the Meiying? Speed cube shop has stickerless Meiyings, but no Yue Xiaos in stock and I want to make use of the Easter sale discount.
thecubicle.us has all the cubes I want, but they don't offer any discounts and they seem to have problems with processing orders at the moment. Does anyone know more about that?

It's not my default answer, that I can tell you but you said smooth and quiet :) Tanglong is even smoother but it's a bit noisier if used at full speed (for slow solving is also very quiet) but it's a bit slower than the Yuexiao. I wouldn't recommend the Meiying. The Yuexiao is similar but better and more stable.

Im looking for a 2x2. I'm looking for one that is good OOTB ( i am not good at setting up and dont have lube). I will be serious about 2x2 so I am hoping one cube can take me far. I think I should get a lingpo because of it's slighty cheap price but good reviews (cyotheking) considering SCS doesnt have old plastic dayans.

I have never been able to get rid of the internal catching on my LingPo but there are people that don't have that problem. Also, you can try the new GuanPo or one of the Fangshis, not sure which one was good :)

What I meant by default answer is that this cube gets recommended quite often, as it seems to be the best cube on the market. And if it fits my description, there's nothing wrong with that.
I will watch some reviews of the Tanglong before I make my final decision. And I would like to know what you think about the thunderclap.

Yeah, I just just making a joke. The Yuexiao is a great cube, indeed.

The Thunderclap, on the other hand, is not quiet but a bit noisy and clacky and it's very nice and fast out of the box. Very similar to the Aolong v2 but a bit better. Depending on your turning style it can also corner twist some times. cyotheking says that you can make it fast or slow, whatever you want (it's his main, as you probably know).

I'd say it's probably the best cube you can buy in performance vs price. But I wouldn't say it's as smooth as, say, the Tanglong. Also it's a tiny bit smaller (barely 56mm) and I can feel the difference in M slices because my hands are quite big (I'm almost 1.90m tall). You can't go wrong with it but, as always, it depends on your preferences. I'm quite happy with later square-corner designs, like Tanglong, Yuexiao, Meiying... because they avoid corner twists.

Yuxin 5x5 or Moyu Bochuang? Also, is it worth it to buy one of these two to upgrade from a Cyclone Boys 5x5? The CB is quite nice but I lock up a lot with it, probably due to my inaccurate turning but also, I think, due to misalignment, as the outer layers are much faster than the inner ones.

I haven't tried the BoChuang, yet but the YuXin 5x5 is much more controllable than the CB 5x5. Definitely give it a shot if you find the CB a bit frustrating. The CB is great as a casual use cube but not very well suited to speedsolving, IMO.

I say BoChuang. A bit more controllable than Yuxin. The problem is if you see inaccurate at turning the BoChuang and Yuxin may have worse misalignment issues while the CB and new SS wind just lock up.
